Well folks,
Bit of an update. I found a semi derelict property on just over 1 acre. It’s 45 minutes from work, 3 minutes to schools and shops, 10 minutes from motorway.
The house is up for roughly 2 years of my salary, maintaining what we pay in rent now we would pay it off in 10 years or so. Needs major work but there is up to 90k euro available in grants from the government that covers everything from solar panels to heating systems, from windows and doors to structural work. I’ve met with the realtor, credit union and builder for estimates.
Now I’m waiting for approval from the lender to cover mortgage and renovation costs, I’ll be able to clear the renovation costs when claiming back the grants.
It’s going to be a mammoth bit of work but this looks promising! Mortgage free before 50 with enough room for the kids to build on when they are ready.
