Biometric data collection is now creeping into U.S. retail. My husband is building a woodshed and went to rent a compactor at the Home Depot. Needs to tamp down a crushed gravel base for the shed and pad in front for loading wood, etc. We’ve rented things like this many, many times over the years. Well, no more. To rent any fairly expensive tool, Home Depot now requires you to register with Clear and submit your biometric data “to prevent theft.” As if having our driver’s license and credit card isn’t enough. Looks like we’re going to have to find an alternative.

I think it was 6-8 months ago that Chris predicted we had about 2 years left. It’s looking realistic.
