Good common sense tips I'll bet a lot of folks don't follow through on. I always have food, water, outdoor clothing and boots, change of clothes, flashlight, knife, matches, first aid, tow strap, etc.
I'd add keep on top of the latest weather report, and don't get into trouble in the first place, unless you really have to travel no matter what.
I got premium snow tires on an extra set of used rims and swap them out myself each winter. The extra traction in snow really makes travel in storms a lot less stressful.
