Ayn Rand has a point, and it is valid, but only when you recognise that helping others without an immediate material return (community) IS in your best interest. “Altruism” for it’s own sake can get you into trouble. So can selfishness. It is balancing the two that leads to a our best interests being fulfilled. Also, that balance will be different for different people.
