I am a 72-year-old Ontario resident who is embarrassed beyond words by the actions of my governments. For the first time in my life, I did not vote in the recent provincial election. PM Doug Ford has attempted a lame tariff fight but when Trump upped the ante with a 50% tariff on steel, he came groveling back to reality.
In the 1960’s around the world Canada was seen as a shining beacon of peace, tolerance and integrity. A massive fall from grace!
In the upcoming election your choices are a) Carney, a sleazy Cental Banker b) Pierre Poilievre a warmonger who is fully on board with the Ukraine debacle and the Gaza genocide c) Jagmeet Singh who threw away his values to support Turdeau on all significant votes.

Can vote ppc next time - better to throw a vote away on best choice than stay home.
Though in swing ridings that can go conservative it’s really important to strategically vote conservative.

Yup. Trump should just declare Canada is in a state of political transition and he will re-engage when they decide who is in charge. Then STFU.
I support many of the things he has done but it seems to be going off the rails fast. (hmm, maybe that explains the sudden appearance of train crash videos in my feed…)

I hear ya Larry, and most of me leaned that way. I was kinda grasping for straws because I and my small close tribe (within the broader one here at PP) got SO much relief by Trump’s victory and invested SO much hope that Trump & Team would prove the best fighters available against totalitarianism. I’ve long believed the capital citadel we need to take is the dark parts CIA-FBI-military-industrial cadre. It seems that the battle has ended in our defeat before it hardly began.

In fact, with a British passport, I’m scared to visit in case one day they should go through my work and think me guilty of subversion! I used to think that was ridiculous, but not any more. The technical term for this is kleptogamy, however, John Maynard-Smith, the “father” of applying game-theory to evolutionary biology, called these males “sneaky fuckers” and that name has stuck ever since.
Edited: I tried to find a reference to JMS being the orignator of this phrase and found this:
Evolutionary biologists were a small tight group in the UK in the 70s (Krebs, Dawkins, Clutton-Brock etc. all knew each other well and met regularly), so given the causal manner in which it was referred to, I suspect it could well have been from JMS’ mouth, though I doubt he would have written it down in a publication, unlike Krebs/Dawkins who were from a different generation.
