Here is a good article on the institutional dysfunction that made the Covid debacle more likely.
The pandemic did not create the dysfunction inside biomedical science. It placed a magnifying glass over institutions that had been decaying for decades. Grant politics, unfounded hype, administrative expansion, scientific gerontocracy, institutional self-protection, and the punishment of dissent were already pervasive. Fauci enabled the public to watch those forces operate through one person on television every day.
Biomedical institutions did not create one Fauci. They created thousands. The pandemic spotlight simply made one of them famous.
What the Diaries Reveal
Fauci’s diaries offer an unusually revealing account of how he understood his role during the pandemic. Written as notes toward a future autobiography, they show what he considered important enough to preserve about those years.
The diaries undermine the mythology of a reluctant scientist who was unexpectedly thrust into politics and celebrity. They reveal a bureaucratic celebrity preoccupied with attention, status, prominent relationships, media appearances, reputation, and his place in history.
His interest in how he was portrayed, whom he met, who praised him, and how his public image was developing consumes far more attention than any serious engagement with the emerging science of Covid-19 and the pandemic. The office shrine, the concern with his portrait, the meticulous record of his fame, and the diary itself as material for an autobiography all expose the same fixation.
Those self-curated notes reveal his priorities. Science is less as an intellectual pursuit than as the credential supporting the public performance.
The related emails and documents complete the picture. Fauci sought award nominations from influential friends, while funding, prestige, appointments, and recognition circulated through the same professional networks. These relationships were then presented publicly as independent acknowledgments of merit.

Fauci’s career fits a broader historical pattern created by universities and their research systems funded by NIH.
When the NIH budget doubled around the turn of the century, universities expanded their biomedical operations. Medical schools hired large numbers of soft-money professors whose salaries and laboratories depended on external grants. Scientists who had attached their names to important genes or disease pathways during the previous era suddenly gained access to enormous new funding streams.
They built large laboratories, accumulated grants, generated indirect-cost revenue, and developed influence throughout NIH study sections, journals, professional societies, and university administrations. Money created authority, and authority attracted more money.
Many of these people later became department chairs, deans, institute directors, and even university presidents. A few continued doing important science, but most did not adapt as new technologies transformed biology. Their scientific contributions declined while their institutional influence continued growing.
The result was an academic aristocracy whose power survived long after the circumstances that created it disappeared. Seniority came to be treated as wisdom, incumbency as excellence, and grant accumulation as scientific achievement.
Fauci was the most visible member of this gerontocracy. Before the public knew his name, he had already spent nearly 40 years controlling a major NIH institute, and there are countless others. The transformation of NIAID into a roughly $6 billion organization is not a self-validating accomplishment. Budget growth does not prove scientific success.
A serious evaluation must examine the priorities entrenched, the dissent discouraged, the opportunities lost, and the consequences of allowing one person to control an institute for nearly four decades. It must also ask what was not studied. Basic questions about how sleep, diet, exercise, metabolism, stress, sunlight, and other environmental factors shape immunity received far less attention than the preferred institutional agenda, which, for example, was heavily focused on HIV.
The pandemic did not suddenly turn Fauci into a problem. It exposed the culture over which he had already presided for decades.
Scientific Celebrity as a Product
The public sees a handful of scientific celebrities. Insiders know that universities manufacture them by the thousands.
Every major institution has its local circuit of people whose identities revolve around image, status, proximity to power, and the belief that they are important celebrities. They perform the role of scientific authority even when they have shown little interest in science for years, if ever. Some convert the arrangement into wealth. Others are paid in prestige and deference.
These people are not scientists who reluctantly became administrators. They are administrators who use science as a credential. They become skilled at cultivating superficial impressions, repeating approved narratives, and moving through bureaucratic hierarchies. Their institutional rise is then treated as evidence of scientific judgment.
Fauci was the A-list version of this phenomenon. His media charm allowed him to become nationally famous, but his underlying career was familiar. He differed from thousands of university and NIH administrators mainly because he had a camera crew.

I think Judge Napolitano is correct when he cites Jefferson and asks us to dump the entirety of our government. It can’t be reformed. We do not need all this spending by NIH or other agencies. We must focus on supporting integrity and not tolerating lies. We need a legal system that actually works.
In general I think vaccines are a mistake. Focus on being as healthy as possible: Eat real food, not seed oils or chemicals. Study how we evolved as a hunter gatherer and that our success was because we used our brains and could cooperate. If you eat well, are exposed to sunshine and greenery, and sleep so that autophagy can recycle poorly performing cells, your gut bacteria will be happy and you will have excellent resistance to infections. You also need to avoid exposure to things like fluoride and bromine which have no part in our metabolism. Consume foods that are fermented and those that have live bacteria (kombucha or unpasteurized beer). Find non chemical solutions to pests.
With 2 broken legs the past year has been hell, but finally I ditched the walker for a cane and will soon be able to ditch the cane. In every other respect I have the best health of my life: strong nails, hair follicles everywhere, a mustache that needs trimming more often than I can afford, a head full of hair, a functioning prostrate and penis, etc. I take no prescriptions and have no pain. I am skin and bones now but musculature is improving and I am trying to gain back all the fat I lost 8 years ago. I need to eat like a bear preparing to hibernate: fructose is the only way to store fat. I also take a plethora of vitamins and minerals.
I did make a therapy helmet with near infrared light to improve mitochondrial function. This got rid of all the grey on top of my head and increased my IQ. I have used the light on other areas of the body. It has reversed a lot of the damage to the fingers of my right hand from multiple frostbite exposures.
The hardest thing is dealing with all the stress as the modern world collapses. I had finally conquered tobacco but it made a reappearance. I often drink a pint of Black Velvet (Canadian Whiskey) to make sure my mind calms and I fall asleep.
I am still quite lonely in Oregon as I knew no one when I moved here. Now we have fire and smoke and very high levels of carbon dioxide. Still its dry air, cattle, and isolation make it a relatively good choice for survival. I know how to stay warm or how to cool using very little energy. Of course 90% of the population here have no clue of what is coming soon. Most of the people are all into gasoline powered sports. I feel sad for the ranchers whose equipment is mostly diesel powered. Perhaps the biodiesel movement will become popular again.

I personally 100% believe that SC2 was a consciously designed virus, optimized for human beings and created for purpose.
Chimeras are created at the DNA level.
Synthetic viral chimera creation is done at the DNA level. A complementary (cDNA) strand is created which is later transcribed back into RNA. This technology of assembling DNA strands is mature and available in the laboratory for more than three decades.
A long virus, like SC2, is created in 5-7 manageable sized DNA pieces (Corona viruses have large genomes). Then the cDNA strands are connected back together. Ralph Baric created the mechanism of connecting the sections using a technique that hides the connections from casual observation. Called “no-see-ums” (ligation sites that are hard to spot–unless you have read Baric’s papers where he explains how to do it!!)

Strand 1 has a tail of 4 nucleotides at its end. (called the recognition sequence)
Strand 2 also has a tail of 4 nucleotides near its end. The tail of strand 2 is the complement of Strand 1’s tail. (its recognition sequence) These recognition sites recognize each other and bind together.
When mixed together in the correct ratio, these tails find each other and attach.
The NNNN portion of strand 2, “the overhang,” is the secret to hiding the cut.
Enzymes such as BsaI, Esp3I/BsmBI, or BglI recognize a sequence but cut a short distance away, generating a 3–4 bp overhang. When two compatible ends are ligated, the recognition sites themselves are removed.
How Two Fragments Join Seamlessly (No-See’m Style)
The recognition sites are oriented so that after cutting and ligation the enzyme sites disappear, leaving only the desired continuous sequence.
These enzymes don’t cut within the recognition sites themselves, but a few base pairs down the strand. This removes the recognition sites from the final strand, masking their location and use.
These restriction enzymes latch onto a specific “asymmetric non-palindromic” sequence, but make the cut a few base pairs away from the recognition sites. This hides the recognition sites in the final product.
There are several different enzymes used, each of which recognizes a different tail. The different strands can be recognized and assembled in the correct order (strand 4 connects to strand 5, strand 5 connect to strand 6, etc.)

Is there proof that the Baric “no-see-um” endonuclease enzyme system was used in creating the SARS-CoV-2 chimera?
Using statistical methods, 2 papers claim that Baric’s technique WAS probably used to create SC2.
Bruttel, Washburne & VanDongen (2022 preprint): “Endonuclease fingerprint indicates a synthetic origin of SARS-CoV-2” (bioRxiv).
Argues the SARS-CoV-2 BsaI/BsmBI map is unlike wild-type coronaviruses, shows even spacing consistent with published synthetic CoV infectious clones, differs from closest relatives by elevated synonymous mutations at these sites, and meets all criteria for an efficient reverse-genetics system. They conclude it is more likely the product of synthetic genome assembly.
Steven C. Quay (2022 presentation / related analyses on Zenodo): “Restriction Site Analysis of SARS-CoV-2 Demonstrates the signature of a synthetic virus.”
Explicitly links BsaI and BsmBI (described as workhorses of synthetic coronavirus research and part of Baric’s “No See ‘Em” technology) to patterns in SARS-CoV-2. Claims the number, location, segregation, and sequences of these sites are consistent with man-made chimeric genomes and highly inconsistent with natural sarbecoviruses. Later related documents reiterate a low probability of natural occurrence.
But two other papers say that it is NOT so clear.
Examination of other corona viruses find that the distribution of these restriction enzyme sites is not that unique. (A statistical analysis by comparing multiple other viral genomes.) Here and Here.
Common sense override of scholarly analysis
So, a brand new, novel, chimeric, corona virus appears on the door step of a Virology Institute run by a world class creator of Chimeric corona viruses. And, that world-class virologist studied with Ralph Baric in NC, and Ralph Baric visited that virology institute and published papers with Zengli-Shi on 1) creating chimeric corona-viruses, and 2) optimizing them to infect human ACE-2 receptors in epithelial cells in the airway.
Does it seem probable that Zengli-Shi and Ralph Baric were at the center of the creation and human optimization of the new, novel, chimerc corona-virus?
And the transition from Bat to human host was sudden and COMPLETE at the first appearance in humans with no ability to infect bats RIGHT AT ITS FIRST EMERGENCE.

My question- what would motivate you to work on a no-see-um technique? What drives almost all academic research? Funding. The PI must propose and receive funding for a source before she/he can begin research and hire graduate students, especially those pursuing PhDs.
Alternatively, the PI may be so well-known to covert organizations they may approach the PI and fund the lab to do the work.
