Came here to post about how I understand why we are probably at the point of either revolution or civil war, but don’t feel warm and fuzzy about it. These things usually don’t end well for anyone.
This video makes my point. But when I see my half of the population thrown under the bus by the current crop of assholes in power, it’s hard to remember the downside of the guillotine.
The problem is that a civil war likely won’t stop at throwing out a couple of politicians and replacing them with decent people. Not that that will make much difference, given there are way more powerful forces above them, but let’s not digress…
A US civil war wouldn’t even be geographical - as in the past and which reduces the mess. It would be various factions in every place fighting out perceived wrongs - perhaps aka English Civil War - which was nasty - families fighting familes and horrible/personal/brutal things done when a side had the upper hand. So no one would be safe. And, when the talking stops and the fighting starts, all nuance leaves the room. Enemies start to be identified not by what they think or say, but by simple characteristics, such as race. Or (in the absence of that, but the US has no absence of that) some kind of sectarianism, as was seen in Northern Ireland.
If it goes that way, you can forget about nuance or the lovely black guy at your church. Lines will be drawn on race lines and you go from there.
But, I doubt you will even get the “relief” (for want of a better term) of a quick and decisive battle and then peace. Instead, you’ll have (already have to some degree) these different factions doing random actions on each other for decades despite a heavy police/military presence (aka Northern Ireland) and you’ll have to live within this chaos (which will have weeks and weeks of normal and then a bomb goes off) and decide who might be friend or foe and who you should say things to. You never know who those things will be told to and what they will do with that info, thus driving wedges deeper and deeper between people.
It might grind along for a generation, stifling stability and innovation, thus shrinking the pie and giving everyone another thing to fight about.
Don’t go there lightly - and, if you go there, don’t anyone think they will have the option to sit it out and mind their own business.
You made my point from the linked video. This never ends well, but maybe this time will be different? Nah!:
To comment on the thumbnail, let’s not pretend (not that I’m suggesting you are - I’m just commenting generally) that France 1789, Russia 1917, US War of Independence and many other wars (incl English Civil War) didn’t have the fingerprints of powerful and influential, financier groups behind them. Organic they were not. IMO…
Similarly, unrest in the west now is being caused and stoked. The conditions are being created. A war can act as a smokescreen to give the state power and reset the currency, while blaming it all on everyone except the bankers…
As an aside, in the UK, various “hoards” have been found over the years - where people have buried gold and silver due to war but been unable to recover it - due to being killed, I suspect. Ok, they didn’t get to recover it, but that wealth still exists hundreds of years later. Whereas, if they had buried paper money…
I was in that. Huge stress can I ever get any proper job. It has gotten only worse over time. Due to those external factors (talk nice etc). Im oldschool type person which are heavily marginalized. Those uncles and grandads who talk straight, do business, no smalltalk or sugary marketing. And it works. Not that expensive either.
It is clear this is development mostly from 1980s and private equity monsters wanting cheap labour and workforce replacement in that hamster wheel. That other part was some sort of liberal west culture hallucination, not based on science(self help type nonsense spread around for fame and bucks). Now it is not cultural anymore. Heavily financial structure driving things globally.
I see commentary from Italy. On paper Italy is like US or Finland/Sweden (lots of highly educated, western type people with good values). However structure is corrupted and blackouts etc problems are abundant. Governance is broken. That is our future in west as low IQ folks are flown in to replace “natives” in workforce. With low IQ I mean it can be einstein but they dont have any language nor tradition nor any other knowledge what they are doing, just cheapest possible hour rate and skip all pension payments etc.
Just got back from the grocery store not 10 minutes ago for a few odds and ends. A guy in a hoodie was grabbing stuff off the shelf and right into his pocket and jacket. Then a large bag of chips in one hand. Going out the door past a display, he turned and snagged a twelve pack of coke and out the door he went. Not a care of being stealthy or who was watching.
Not a large haul by any means but absolutely bold almost like he was owed.
Going to be intetesting how this plays out if the SNAP cards remains shut down.
In the US, in 2022, approximately one in three Americans, or around 100 million people, were enrolled in at least one government assistance program, including nearly half of all American children.
That is unsustainable and its only going to get worse. Im sure it is worse since those numbers were compiled. Add soaring personal debt and the rising cost of everything else and that level of dependence and desperation will make UBI much easier to implement.
UBI wont help + it will be so low level rate that people would still need extra “free food”, especially with kids. + millions of immigrants living in US now dont have same respect for “western values”, they are simply finding better life any means necessary. New Chicagos and other problems are abound.
What I mean in europe these immigrants tend to do both. Sit at home with above average benefits. They see someone drive nice mercedes and good clothing and think they deserve more. UBI will enhance that. Especailly as economy gets tighter in US due to debt interest costs and even doordash gigs are not available for everyone (here in nordics we have reports people pay for accounts of those services, it is pretty tough competition already in those gig works with flooded immigrants and generally bad job market as manufacturing is nonexistent for lowlevel, entry level proper jobs).
Of course candidates like Mamdani and AOC potentially entering 2028 presidential race, new stimchecks are their “solution”.
Doordash and Uber are also corporations. They try to skim constantly more and more to their bottom line. Thus gig worker compensation will stay same or go down over time while inflation rages. So at some point few people bother to do it. Less and less over time.
Trump managed to slow this down by ICE and self deportations. It is still strong trend.
However in US by constitution states should have biggest say. So while federal can do dumb stuff, states could perhaps do more to secure economy and social unrest. That’s potentially better than EU where it is topdown model.
Wow!!
For weeks this looming SNAP shutdown and the military salaries (and air traffic controllers!) issue has me filled with anxiety.
The Democrats and Trump - each side must have war gamed this, no? They must have. They always war game these things.
They war gamed this and both side have decided, “Fuck it. Let the riots commence.”
That is what has been bothering me the past two weeks.
Both sides are ready for dissolution of civil order, for random Normie on Normie violence. I have to stay home and guard my wife and child rather than work type of thing.
God, I hope I am wrong.
Since Lord Palmerston’s time, breaking the U.S. into warring factions has been a dream of the Western financial empire - if we got uppity, they would do what they are doing: pull the pin on the welfare grenade and hijack our democracy with compromised politicians to ensure bloodshed and chaos.
100% agree.
It may be they both agree… that means very dire times are ahead… famine and fights to deliberately let people kill each other to reduce population.
To be blunt, 100mn cut off from US and DC creatures can still keep their current lifestyle. Chinese also think this way, at least Mao’s time… coldly calculated to build bunkers, save party elite and let 100mn people or so die in nuclear armageddon. Looks west has similar elite people nowadays.
DC SNAP statistics were interesting in this respect(very high). They dont have to fear 10 thousand homeless and hungry people from alaska but DC folks could storm white house or cause other disruptions in town.
Jack Spirko (Survival Podcast) had a recent episode called “All Welfare is Corporate Welfare”. I only started listening to it, but it makes total sense. Think about where the SNAP money actually ends up. Sure the SNAP beneficiary gets some crappy “food”, the grocery store gets a tiny cut, but the real money flows to Big Food.
When I realized that, I knew this SNAP thing won’t last long. Coke, RJR Nabisco, etc. will put an end to it promptly.
And this, of course, is really the bottom-line and bigger question rather than being hyper-focused on all of the statistics that we have that are the result of people not being able to get by on their own in the first place. This is really what we should be talking about more right now - or at least balanced with - the reality of where we are as a country at this point.
@2donks Thank you for your post. You were absolutely spot on saying that the real money flows to Big Food. I’m going to go listen to that podcast. Your point about the big food companies striving to put an end to the cutting of SNAP benefits. It will definitely be interesting to watch as we move forward.
I’ll also add Big Pharma to this. Eating “food-like crap” results in people getting - and more importantly - staying sick. There’s a need for people to keep eating poorly so that they can keep relying on what Big Pharma has to serve up. It’s a relentless hamster wheel.
