Tokenization of stocks is gaining momentum as Trust Wallet, owned by Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, has integrated tokenized stocks and ETFs on Ethereum through collaborations with Ondo Finance and 1inch, aiming to increase access to real-world assets. In total, Ondo Finance and the Ondo Foundation have launched over 100 tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs on Ethereum, with plans to scale to 1,000 securities by year-end and expand to BNB Chain and Solana. The Ondo Global Markets platform enables 24/7 onchain access for eligible investors in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and Latin America, supported by OKX Wallet, 1inch, and Chainlink for liquidity and pricing.
An advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that the U.S. is developing a crypto strategy to transfer its $35 trillion debt into stablecoins and devalue it globally, though this assertion remains unverified. Meanwhile, stablecoin reserves on centralized exchanges have reached a record $68 billion, with Binance holding $44.2 billion, or 67% of the market share, followed by OKX at $9 billion, according to data from industry reports. However, concerns have emerged about the concentration of stablecoin reserves on major exchanges like Binance, with some analysts warning of potential market risks if regulatory or operational challenges arise. Separately, Kazakhstan’s Astana Financial Services Authority has become the first in the region to accept USD-pegged stablecoins for regulatory fee payments through a partnership with Bybit.
Meanwhile, new regulatory frameworks like the GENIUS Act are supporting stablecoins, potentially reducing the perceived need for CBDCs, while attention shifts to other privacy concerns, including AI data collection. That said, debates over privacy and control persist with Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and Digital IDs. In the U.S., Congress is considering a ban on a digital dollar within a defense bill, with lawmakers like Rep. Tom Emmer expressing concerns about surveillance risks. The Federal Reserve has stated that no CBDC will be launched without congressional approval. Additionally, the U.S. Treasury is exploring Digital ID for DeFi compliance, aligning with global initiatives involving biometric-linked systems, such as Sam Altman’s WorldCoin and the UN’s refugee programs. On the other hand, some sources, including the U.S. Treasury, emphasize that Digital ID efforts are focused on enhancing security and combating illicit finance in DeFi, not necessarily on enabling surveillance or social credit systems.
Lastly, Sora Ventures has launched Asia’s first $1 billion Bitcoin treasury fund with an initial $200 million commitment, aiming to compete with U.S. corporate adoption and promote Bitcoin as a reserve asset, supported by regional entities such as Japan’s Metaplanet and Singapore’s family offices.
US Politics
Over two weeks ago, 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was killed by Decarlos Brown Jr., a man with 14 prior arrests, as shown in surveillance footage. The incident has drawn criticism from some who argue that it highlights issues with Democratic policies on crime, particularly regarding repeat offenders. Rep. Randy Fine has announced plans to introduce legislation that would hold judges accountable for crimes committed by violent repeat offenders they release, citing Zarutska’s murder as a key example. Additionally, some have claimed that major media outlets, including The New York Times, CNN, and The Washington Post, have not covered the case, in contrast to their reporting on other high-profile incidents. There are also reports that Wikipedia editors are seeking to delete the article on Zarutska’s killing, with some allegedly describing it as unremarkable, prompting concerns among critics about potential efforts to limit public awareness of the story. However, local outlets like The Charlotte Observer have provided coverage, and some argue that the lack of national attention may reflect competing news priorities rather than deliberate omission, while others, including legal experts, caution that focusing on judicial accountability could overlook systemic issues like rehabilitation and mental health support.
