I knew they did this back during WWII, but did not know of actual practioners of the black art of wood-gassified cars. It has been exciting to read this article and the one about small-scale bio-fuels. Ingenious and hopeful!
Some Thoughts
- In northern climes with more timberland, but less capacity to grow oil-bearing seeds or fruit... I wonder if this would be the more likely candidate over bio-diesel or straight vegetable oil. Have there been studies comparing this to the bio-diesel or vegetable oil alternatives?
- I also wonder about the competitiveness of burning wood for a steam engine instead - or additionally using waste heat from a wood-gassified car to cogenerate steam for additional power.
