Come on, you can’t be serious!!??
In our town there was anesthesiologist named Dr. Moneymaker. No joke!
What a great Christmas present: Dave Collum’s YIR! A real favorite of mine, too. Took me 2 sit downs. Even my husband knows not to bother me when I’m reading the YIR.
Had several laughs out loud and of course, a couple of those profound “we are fucked” moments.
I’m with Chris, scored a 42.
Post Script: Always wondered what happened to the final chapter from last year’s YIR. Not sure if I’m looking forward to that one this January; feeling a sense of dread.
And no kiddin’, the local colorectal specialist is named Dr. Root. I’m glad we all agreed on the non-invasive “poop smear” test this year. Next year? Uh…
At the peak of the Zerohedge bell curve, I stand without apology at an even 30.
" Since the cost of feeding your family has not gone up, the bean counters say there is no inflation. The rub seems obvious to me: that 50% savings by downgrading to chicken from sirloin—substitution— should be offset to the penny by a 50% reduction in quality—hedonics. By this reckoning, substitution should always be reversed by hedonics. Ergo, substitution is economic nonsense created by a bunch of boobs."
Dave - this is brilliant! I’d never considered this, but it makes perfect sense.
Substitution is the exact offset of hedonics…of course it is.
Not sure how I missed this all these years…
If you got a perfect CCTS of either zero or 60, get professional help. You have an unstable personality. A CCTS above 50 suggests you only spotted the explicit sanity checks; you are a loon but not necessarily at risk of harm to yourself or others. A score of 40–49 tags you as a World-class rabbit chaser. A CCTS of 20–39 places you in the Zerohedge bell curve. Below 20 means you are not a die-hard conspiracy theorist but occasionally spot oddities.
I scored 42, which puts me just above the Zero Hedge “norm”. Surprising … according to my family and friends, they think I’m off my rocker with suspicion. Good to know I’m in good company with so many astute observers of humanity.
Great article…
Part 3 is my journey into the Heart of Darkness in which I have explored the darkest recesses of human depravity to understand otherwise-inexplicable matters of geopolitics. I promised it last year, but it wasn’t soup yet.
Dave, I wasn’t ready or able to take such evil in last year, but I am now. Reading it will be a challenge, but that doesn’t compare to living it while writing it.
BTW, I scored 44 and am very comfortable with this number.
47 for me. Apparently, by Dave Collum’s scale, I’m on the edge of being somewhat crazy. Fine. I am what i “yam”.

38 for me
I love this part - what a concise summary!
It turns out stolen elections have consequences, as do fraudulently blown market bubbles.
36 for me
İ love reading your YİR, Dave. Especially your comments about Ithaca which was my homebase for years.
Looking forward to next parts!

My halibut thanks you for that…
“and the healthcare profession killed people.”
News update: “and vice versa.”
37’s not bad, right?
Merry Christmas to All!
I know I know but it’s a freakin’ complex system and it will defy you for an indeterminate frustrating surprising and damning length of time!
39 was my score
