The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), led by MIT professor Retsef Levi, has initiated a review of COVID-19 vaccine safety. The working group will examine issues from the 2020 rollout, including DNA contamination, spike protein persistence, cardiovascular risks, pregnancy safety data, and long-term outcomes. Levi has stated an intention to rebuild public trust through transparency and has pointed to past surveillance shortcomings while advocating for evidence-based policy decisions. However, some experts have expressed skepticism about the necessity of this review, arguing that existing data already supports vaccine safety and that the focus should remain on current public health challenges.
Relatedly, a study in the European Heart Journal suggests a link between COVID-19 infection and accelerated blood vessel aging in women, with effects comparable to a decade of early aging. Conducted across 34 centers in 16 countries, the research indicates that the virus may impact vascular receptors and immune responses, with more significant effects observed in women than in men. Further research is needed to fully understand and address these long-term vascular impacts. Some cardiologists, however, have questioned the study’s methodology and suggest that more comprehensive studies are required to confirm these findings.
Separately, a recent ACIP vote on an RSV antibody for infants has sparked debate after new information has come to light suggesting the data used to support the original yes-vote was manipulated. Adviser Dr. Robert Malone has claimed that the decision was based on data that understated seizure risks, raising questions about the transparency of the decision-making process. In contrast, Dr. Jake Scott from Stanford University has countered that the data analysis methods may have been misinterpreted due to differences in vaccine exposure among subgroups, suggesting the seizure risks might not be directly attributable to the antibody.
Speaking of infants, a study published in Cureus found that infants in homes with high wireless radiation levels had over three times the risk of developmental delays in problem-solving and fine motor skills. The research, conducted in Mumbai with 105 infants, noted the potential vulnerability of children to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields. Some experts have called for greater industry accountability and the development of safer technology standards in response to these findings. However, industry sources have criticized the study’s small sample size and methodology, arguing that more comprehensive research is needed to establish a definitive causal link.
Finally, the FDA has issued warnings to five companies regarding mousse-form sunscreens that may not provide adequate UV protection due to non-compliance with regulations. The agency also identified traces of Cesium-137 in samples of Walmart frozen shrimp from Indonesia, advising consumers to discard the affected products to minimize potential health risks. Walmart has confirmed the recall, noting that the contamination levels are below FDA intervention thresholds and emphasizing their commitment to customer safety while working with the agency.

I believe that only transparent and comprehensive pursuit of the answers will allow us to rebuild trust, and ensure that whatever we recommend is based on the best scientific evidence, and honesty about what we know and what we do not know.

Packaging drug products in containers that resemble food containers commonly used by adults and children can mislead consumers into mistaking the products for food, which is of particular concern as this increases the risk of accidental ingestion.
COVID-19 Linked to Accelerated Blood Vessel Aging in Women, Study Finds
“There are several possible explanations for the vascular effects of Covid. The Covid-19 virus acts on specific receptors in the body, called the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptors, that are present on the lining of the blood vessels.”
