US Politics

An end to the record 40-day government shutdown is in sight as eight Senate Democrats, including Angus King, John Fetterman, and Dick Durbin, joined Republicans to break the filibuster and pass a continuing resolution with limited concessions on Obamacare subsidy extensions, such as protections for fired workers and a future vote. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer expressed outrage on the Senate floor, accusing defectors of undermining healthcare reform. Senator Bernie Sanders warned that the compromise shows weakness against authoritarian advances. The measure now heads to the House for a Wednesday vote before potential presidential approval. Some Democrats viewed the resolution as a pragmatic step to resume federal operations and address the immediate crisis affecting workers.

In Chicago, U.S. Border Patrol agents during Operation Midway Blitz encountered gunfire, four vehicle ramming attempts, mob assaults with bricks and projectiles, and blockades while conducting enforcement near Little Village. This resulted in damaged vehicles and arrests of eight U.S. citizens plus one non-citizen. A suspect in a black Jeep reportedly fired five to seven shots before fleeing, as crowds trapped agents in alleys and blocked convoys to an FBI facility and a Sam’s Club lot, with Chicago police assisting evacuations. An internal Customs and Border Protection alert cited a purported Latin Kings directive authorizing “shoot on sight” against immigration officers in the area, advising heightened vigilance amid escalating resistance from agitators and gang members in the sanctuary city. Community leaders have expressed frustration, claiming federal tactics provoked tensions and targeted residents unnecessarily in the sanctuary city.

President Trump issued pardons to 70 individuals, including Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, John Eastman, and Mark Meadows, for their involvement in challenging the 2020 election results and what the proclamation described as exposing voting irregularities, framing it as rectifying a national injustice for reconciliation. The pardons, largely symbolic since none faced federal charges, also covered over 1,000 supporters convicted or awaiting trial for the January 6, 2021, Capitol events. They did not apply to Trump himself, and the White House provided no immediate comment. Critics argue the pardons undermine election integrity and set a precedent for excusing attempts to subvert democratic processes.

Economy

President Trump announced a $2,000 dividend for most Americans, excluding high-income individuals, to be funded by tariff revenues exceeding $195 billion in 2025 and projected to reach $500 billion annually. The funds could be distributed via tax cuts on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits, aiming to rebalance trade without causing inflation. Economists remain divided, with some warning that tariffs could provoke retaliatory measures and higher consumer costs, potentially offsetting the dividend’s benefits.

In Vietnam, cultural preferences for gold as a hedge against uncertainty have resulted in hoarding estimated at 500 tons, contributing to supply shortages and premiums of 10-15% over global prices during a rally that peaked at $4,380 per ounce. The government ended a 13-year state monopoly on gold imports in October, planning to liberalize the market with quotas by mid-December to align local prices with international levels and reduce black market activity. Annual demand stands at 55 tons, exceeding recent imports of 13.5 tons. New rules require bank transfers for transactions over $760, with proposals including taxes on purchases to discourage speculation and promote circulation via a phased national trading exchange. Critics, including local traders, have expressed concerns that proposed taxes and gradual reforms may further strain supply and confuse consumers unfamiliar with digital banking.

The dollar’s role as the world’s reserve currency has reportedly continued to erode, raising concerns about risks to global trade deficits funded by borrowing. Nations in the BRICS group have sought to bypass U.S. financial influence through sanctions and alternative trade systems, potentially leading to an influx of dollars into the U.S. economy. This could increase import prices for essentials like food and fuel and raise interest rates on loans and mortgages.

European Politics

The UK’s Public Authorities Fraud Error and Recovery Bill, approaching Royal Assent as of November 7, 2025, would grant agencies like the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) authority to withdraw up to 40% of monthly funds from personal bank accounts and 20% from business accounts on suspicion of fraud, without needing evidence or a criminal conviction. Banks would be required to provide account details, transaction histories, and balances without notifying claimants for up to three months, applying to benefits such as universal credit and personal independence payments. The bill would also expand search and seizure powers to include home entries and device access, using centralized AI-driven data matching for enforcement. Critics have raised concerns about risks of overgeneralization, especially for vulnerable claimants with irregular financial patterns, given DWP processing delays and high success rates for tribunal appeals on denied benefits. Government officials maintain the measures are proportionate and include safeguards to protect rights while targeting fraud that costs public funds billions annually.

Health

An early-stage trial of a CRISPR-based gene therapy reduced harmful LDL cholesterol and triglycerides by nearly half in participants with uncontrolled levels. The therapy, administered as a single infusion targeting the ANGPTL3 gene to boost liver breakdown of blood fats, was tested on 15 adults in their 50s and 60s from Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K. The Phase 1 study showed median pre-treatment levels of 155 mg/dL for LDL and 192 mg/dL for triglycerides, with the highest dose achieving 48.9% and 55.2% reductions, respectively, within two months. Mild side effects like nausea were reported, with no serious liver issues. Developed by CRISPR Therapeutics, the therapy could provide lifelong effects for reducing heart disease risk, following prior approvals like Casgevy for sickle cell disease, though long-term safety needs validation in larger trials including U.S. participants. Medical experts (and common-sense critics) caution that the therapy’s permanent genetic changes require further evaluation for long-term risks.

Dr. Ken Berry warns doctors that AI will likely do to their profession what it has already done to nurse practitioners. Health insurers have increasingly incorporated AI into care delivery to reduce costs by offering $0 copay plans where algorithms manage initial visits. This is expected to attract employers focused on savings but has prompted concerns among physicians about AI taking on diagnostic and triage roles, potentially improving access while emphasizing efficiency over in-person consultations. Advocacy groups highlight ethical issues, including data privacy and potential biases in AI decisions, urging that it complement rather than replace human oversight.

Mikhaila Peterson Fuller, diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at age 7, reported remission of her autoimmune symptoms and depression after switching to an all-meat diet, following 16 years on immunosuppressants and joint replacements. At age 23, she saw initial improvements with meat and select whole foods, but reintroducing plants led to relapses, prompting a strict carnivore diet that eliminated symptoms within months and allowed her to stop medications, including SSRIs. She shared her experience via a Facebook group with 7,000 members. This aligns with a recent Harvard study of over 2,000 carnivore dieters, where 90% reported health improvements for conditions like diabetes, including medication discontinuation and high satisfaction levels. Critics state that further research is required to confirm benefits, amid ongoing debates about red meat’s links to chronic diseases. Some nutritionists also warn of potential long-term risks, such as nutrient deficiencies and increased heart disease, due to the diet’s exclusion of plant foods.

Two things both related to the government shutdown. Chucky Schumer expressed outrage over his party’s defections. The RINO’s have been doing that for decades and Democrats have rubbed their noses in defeat. Trump did exactly that this time to Democrats. Bravo, Mr President!

Let’s not get carried away with the $2000 dividend check to be paid back to Americans. Scott Bessent said there won’t be $2000 checks mailed out to American households but instead, they will be in the form of tax breaks.

JHK discusses the temporary end to the government shutdown and what it could mean going forward because as Yogi Berra once famously said: “It ain’t over till it’s over”

The irony here is absurd. So Letita James wants the Judge to throw out her mortgage fraud case on the grounds that the Federal government targeted her because she targeted Donald J Trump for real estate fraud during her campaign (Soros installed puppet). She did exactly what she promised even though Legal experts such as Alan Dershowitz said her case was too weak to even bring it to trial. She did so anyway with a corrupt Judge on the NY bench.

So Letita James apparently believes in the Rules for Thee and not for Me.

Wooo! Free stuff!

Looks like it’s proven popular enough with Dem voters for Trump to give it a try.
