I homeschooled my kids from start to graduation then they went to the local CC as a transition between the house and University.
I keep a decent sized library of books on hand and have the basics that could be used to educate school kids as needed. We also have a decent cross spectrum of books that would serve to give one a decent Liberal Arts education. One could likely find most of what would be needed for a pre-med or stem track. I have even updated some of the science text books over the years. Genetics, cell biology and immunology have progressed alot since I was in school.
My basement could be used as an educational space or as a worship and bible study space. I have a dozen hymnals I bought for practically nothing on ebay, and a tuned piano and a couple guitars on hand. I have always thought we might end up resorting to home-churching before I get old. My basement has a canning kitchen that doubles as an art and science lab. This could be used to teach about canning and other food preservation.

I think being in"calorie prison" is totally wrong and bad for your mindā¦ Sometimes itās just as simple as lower the carbs even little more and up the good fatsā¦

Iām planning to go more clean carnivore from now on since I tore my meniscus week ago and what to lower any inflammation as much as possible and increase collagen intake as much as possibleā¦

Energy is a big deal in China. The engineers who manage China decided to go all out on energy production in all fields. Regarding the internet, Xi (like most recent leaders, a trained engineer) decided to push the country to focus on hardware over software. I expect that open AI from China will dominate the world within a few years and that most hardware for the internet, for AI and for robots world wide will come from China. This is in part the result of 10s of millions of tiger moms raising their single sons to become engineers and study STEM fields.
China feels like America in the 1960s or like Japan in the 1980s. Much excitement about new technology and improving life through technology. I was surprised by how hated the Japanese are in China and did not meet other Americans or Japanese there. I really think that China just doesnt care so much about what America does and they are focusing on Russia, India, Brazil, Vietnam, indonesia and other countries that are growing economically. and improving the lives of their people. I dont think that they care about American business as much as the American media proclaims and are willing to lose much money if the Americans refuse to respect them.
I keep hearing from American media that there was an informal āelectionā of Takaichi who will become the next Japanese prime minister. Nonsense. The people did not vote for her and the people do not want her war mongering anymore than the people in Europe want to have war with Russia, or Americans want war with Iran. Its all military contractor corporate marketing. The main party LDP`s back room selection (based on big money, similar to that in the US to decide who to nominate) has caused defection of their coalition partner Komeito which is mostly Buddhist and strongly opposes war and the big money that pushed the main party to favor the new pro military spending Takaichi as an āelectedā new prime minister. Interestingly some other parties just now have specifically requested debate on the role of money in such āselectionā process. Another theme is that Japan seems to be addressing immigration because the people are upset. The immigration rules are becoming more strict from this month, but there are already way too many inappropriate foreigners who are ruining the country Most people are afraid to talk about chinese and african immigrants. It is clear that large corporations make much money from immigrants and the issue boils down to the people vs the big corporations. I think that the country could quickly change and become very inhospitable to foreigners. Interestingly to me, people in the countryside seem to respect and accept foreigners more easily than city dwellers, probably because we show more interest than Japanese in continuing rural life and the people here appreciate that.
I came back to PP for a month because I need to message Dave Fairfax and the only way to do that is to pay 30$ to PP. I will travel to Ohio, upstate NY and Virginia in May 2026 to show off the hardware that I am developing for this to the amateur radio community although it has other commercial applications such as adding high speed digital download (maps/weather etc) to AM radio reception. At this point Iam looking for people who have hardware and computer interfacing skills although next year I hope to provide the basic hardware for early adopters in the amateur radio community.
What you say mirrors what I have been seeing / reading about Japan elsewhere.
During our last trip there (March / April of this year) we saw so many tourists behaving so badly that it was embarrassing to be near them.
As soon as we got away from the big tourist places and into the more rural areas (especially Shikoku) it was like being in a different world.
IceQueen and I are learning Japanese, and even with our terribly small vocabulary and incorrect pronunciation, we got the impression that because we were trying to communicate on their terms, we were welcomed more than the usual āDo you speak English?ā crowd.
thank you for comments. I am in Shikoku. We have way too many permanent foreigners but can not say that without being condemned as racist racist racist. Meanwhile crime is way up and we for example have lost thousands of dollars to Chinese but cant say that for being racist, just like in Europe.
