On the ballot yesterday in Fairfax County, Virginia was another school bond referendum. I swear every year they are on the ballot and every year they pass by a large margin. This time it was to authorize another $460M in spending. It passed with over 70% approval.
I just can’t get over this mindset of more and more debt based spending. Fairfax County now carries over $3 billion in debt, and this wealthy county is rated AAA. That works out to over $11,000 per homeowner to pay back the principle.
@rodster and @aaronmckeon
I did read (or at least scan) the D/D yesterday and completely missed it.
Oops!
I saw on short blurb on X and that was it.
Made an assumption.
Yes I know what that gets me…
Apologies.
It looks Mamdani can take #1 spot in party. AOC thinks she is star. She will be run over. Not her kind but his kind.
Even if machinery blocks his all policy actions, this stochastic terrorism symbolic leader will inspire more to implement those deeds. Talk alone is enough these days. Same as Trump. He changed nothing grassroots, but that symbolic change alone changed.
This smells fraud. At some point was talks how rating system is charade. It could turn overnight to C if they decide so(credit rating folks go to lunch in same street as bank leaders).
It is baffling that debtload is still seen “positive”. 1971 flipped the script? I remember old folks always saved up, no loan was pride to them.
I think a lot of people were, because money goes where it’s treated well. Still, I like the speed at which a reaction is already happening. I hope it’s swift so people can realize how bad a mistake this was.
What i’m waiting for are the leftists, woke, socialists, mocking conservatives for leaving NY. It’s okay for the left to leave the country because of Trump but it will be racist to leave NY because of Mamdani. Just you wait.
Realistically, this isn’t going to happen. The woke socialists are devoid of any critical thinking skills. All they have been taught is to judge matters via emotion. It will take a complete catastrophe for them to “get it”. And at that point, it’s too late. It would take multi generations to recover from the damage done.
Just a thought about the whole Mamdani thing that’s kind of out of left field (pun intended). There’s been artificially created panics in NYC in the past to get people to move out and have certain others buy up the assets on the cheap. Think “white flight” in the late 1960s. After the race riots, working class NYers headed for the hills. Developers would come into a neighborhood, buy a house and move a black family in. Then they’d go to the other homeowners and tell them they’d buy their house - at a discount - and they should take the offer because more blacks were moving in and property values were tanking.
What if the Blackrocks of the world are salivating at Mamdani. They can play panicked but really just be looking to buy up the dip at pennies on the dollar.
So can someone tell me how socialism would ever work. I hear the new mayor is democratic islamic socialist. I believe, yes everyone should have enought to live a good life.EVERYONE. But I do not see how a so called fair system works, and could provide that. For example, an artists needs more things to make art and a big space to work. If you want a child you need more food and such and some people do not do good in a city, but if you live in the country you would have a bigger house…so how does this work…Great idea but people need different things so how can you make this work…love to have ideas and a chat about it.
Just spent some time in parts of Europe which was formerly behind the Iron Curtain. They are particularly sensitized to communism, having been crushed by it. Lots of communism museums. Socialism in Europe hasn’t fallen yet, but it’s staggering…
