I can see that but in downtowns they cry why nobody buy new shoebox apartments anymore. So they may salivate on that prospect but it wont realize for same reason many voted Mamdani and many others moved out or even moved their business out… cost level is simply too high now… sort of “bubble” as stock market seems to be vs what they actually provide and produce (service or product). Only way is then lobby Mamdani to cash more benefits to immigrants in 5star hotels or empty expensive boring condos or have them empty. Sensible business owners will start looking elsewhere. These kind of cycles dont end on their own. Nobody wants to lower price first(normal thing when your product, real estate, isnt selling).
We are seeing classic Henry Ford situation now. Companies can produce and build but they forgot almost nobody can afford those products (salary stagnation vs prices going up). Since 2022 it has been constant layoff news from US.
This is a feature, not a bug. Keep workers too busy and too broke to provide any real resistance to the increasing demands of capital. And more importantly, the increase in wealth inequality as money gets siphoned from the bottom to the oligarchs. I think Peter Turchin explains it very well with his concept of the “wealth pump.”
Im referring to how they now ask every turn uncle sam to “help” when citizens cannot buy them anymore. Latest Sam Altman and Jensen Huang… that attitude…
The worst part of the story as I understand it is that during the time it’s taken to fight this out the birds that were supposed to die of the deadly flu are still alive.
And the family has asked the health authorities “Aren’t you even interested in why?”
This is such a perfect example of science being driven by models to the point that real world outcomes are of no interest to the bureaucrats that make decisions for other people with none of their own skin in the game.
