Food and the Great Awakening

I am a physician. I am board certified in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. The residency program I trained in was also heavy on Lifestyle medicine, which now has it’s own board certification program.

Dr. Greger is a heavy hitter in the Lifestyle Medicine space. I’ve become a bit wary of the Lifestyle Medicine crowd. Certainly there is a lot to be learned from these practitioners. I have noticed that they are rabidly anti-animal product of any kind… to the point where it is almost a religion for them. They really don’t have room to acknowledge that there is room for animal products in a healthy diet.

Park them next to the vienna sausages.

Same principle as needing to clear muddy equipment out of my office this weekend, but instead I filed several months worth of paperwork.

(Want to love them? My uncle loved sugar cookies with a sardine pressed into the top before baking. Give it a shot?
The ones packed in oil go really well with crispy carbs (including cookies), something with a different texture. Sardines and saltines! Or get a little posh, use in bruschetta instead of parmesan. Tomato, basil, mozzarella cheese, sardines… Drizzle over more bitter greens like arugala. Mash into a paste for use as a flavor booster where you’d normally use soy sauce/tamari. Asian food stores sell dried sardines of several sorts. Try as a flavorful crunchy -alone or crumbled into a trail mix.)

I recently made bruschetta with smoked salmon, and it was great. Now I am wondering about canned salmon that has been dolled up a bit.

Your suggestion of sardines sounds great as I am a fan of sardines, and now I am imagining that smoked kippers would fit nicely also.

I teach a class on prepper pantry and long term food storage occasionally and like to toss out ideas that are different as to what you can do besides rice and beans.

The sugar cookie is just something I would need to try as I cannot imagine it being pleasant with a sardine on top. I will have to cook one, on a tray by itself using my cat as a cover story,

“Sardine Expedition” in YT is a lady in Alaska who reviews all sorts of Sardines, very well. They are a staple of mine.

Love it! Must see carefully curated cooking magazine style pics of the solo cookie! And the kitty, proof of existence of your prime alibi.

The description of smoked salmon bruschetta made me sigh audibly, that sounds amazing!

For a low carb version serve it on diagonally cut English cucumber slices.
