Gaetz as AG, Gabbard Over Intelligence Reshaping Washington

US Politics

President-elect Donald Trump has announced several appointments that are reshaping the political landscape in Washington. Among these is the nomination of Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz as Attorney General. Gaetz, known for his support of Trump and his controversial political stances, has resigned from Congress to accept the nomination. His appointment is viewed by some as an effort to reform the Department of Justice in line with Trump’s agenda for governmental change.

Trump has also appointed Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence. Gabbard, a former Congresswoman and military officer, has endorsed Trump since 2024. Her appointment is expected to bring a new perspective to the intelligence community, with her bipartisan appeal and military background. Gabbard’s shift from the Democratic to the Republican Party reflects changing political alliances within the administration.

Moving along, Trump’s appointment of TV personality and military man Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, have drawn mixed reactions. Hegseth’s lack of traditional defense experience is seen by some as a potential asset, allowing for a shift in military priorities. However, his hawkish views on foreign policy issues raise questions about the administration’s approach to international relations.

In the Senate, John Thune’s election as a key leader has prompted discussions about the influence of “RINOs” (Republicans In Name Only) in shaping the legislative agenda. Thune’s leadership is seen by some as an effort to moderate Trump’s influence, particularly regarding cabinet confirmations and legislative priorities. This development highlights ongoing tensions within the Republican Party between traditional conservatives and Trump loyalists.

Internationally, the conflict in Ukraine remains a critical issue, with Russia’s actions drawing global attention. The U.S. administration’s cautious approach to supporting Ukraine reflects concerns about escalating tensions with Russia. Media coverage of the conflict has been criticized by some for lacking balance, often focusing on Ukrainian President Zelensky while neglecting the broader geopolitical context.

Domestically, the border crisis continues to be a pressing concern. The appointment of Tom Homan as the incoming “border czar” suggests a potential increase in enforcement actions, including worksite raids targeting companies employing migrants. This move aligns with Trump’s campaign promises to prioritize national security and public safety. Relatedly, a New York City pilot program providing debit cards to migrant families has been halted amid scrutiny and an investigation into its implementation, reflecting the complexities of managing migrant support services.

In the media sphere, tensions have arisen as Kevin Roberts, head of the Heritage Foundation, expelled a Guardian reporter from his book launch event. This incident highlights the contentious relationship between conservative figures and the press, particularly in the context of Project 2025, a potential conservative plan for the Trump presidency.

They discuss the recent Trump appointees. Andrei has an interesting perspective on several of them.

I heard some commentary today (Michael Berry radioshow I think) saying that he won’t get through - will get Borked (though that expression wasn’t used). Don’t know him super well but he’s totally disruptive and not a fan of deep state BS. If he does fail, AG is the or certainly one most important cabinet positions to get right.

Really stoked to see Tulsi Gabbard named. She just seems to have so much integrity. Smart. Tenacious. Principled. That she is or was on some sort of domestic terror watch list getting tailed and spied on. Hillary Clinton calling her a Russian agent. Apparently Russia card being played again by Frum. Time to call BS on all this - root it out - bring some transparency and clean this dirty spy state up!

Counterpoint: Anyone who bows to that tiny country is not a person of integrity. What is happening over there has a name. Refusing to call it as it is, is a basic litmus test of lack of integrity.

I’ve been listening to a lot of interviews on this YT channel recently. Always a great selection of guests and they are allowed to speak without interruption.

Andrei is always entertaining and has interesting perspectives.
Bonus: He also reminds me of the way the ‘Meerkats’ in a series of famous UK TV advertisements speak. They got dropped when the Ukraine conflict broke out as they were obviously meant to sound Russian and the authorities clearly thought they were too sympathetic.

I’m cool with this

Dying to hear who will be in charge of education’s direction. My understanding is US Dept. of Ed. will be removed, then dealt with at the state level, but that was purely anecdotal. However, after hearing about some states’ LACK of math and reading skills via the Nat’l Assessment of Educational Progress (~25 min. 45 sec.) in a recent Candace Owens podcast, I’m dying to know how they’ll get things under control. These are horrifying.

US Black students

  • 84% lack proficiency in math
  • 85% lack proficiency in reading

State statistics (percentage LACKING in math/reading skills):

  • CA: 90% students lack math & reading
  • NY: 85% (math), 82% (read)
  • IL: 86% (M), 85% (R)
  • TX: 84% (M), 89% (R)
  • MD: 86% (M), 80% (R)
  • SC: 90% (M), 87% (R)

Talk about the slave state.

What are M and R?
Is CA: 90% of all students? That’s horrible number if it is so, cali is among richest states(of course county based property tax school funding is another thing as it is so divided too).

M = math, R = reading

She didn’t go into depth about the year of the assessment or which students specifically (by race, gender, age, etc. within each state), but I took 90% to mean ‘of all students’.

This couldn’t possibly have anything to do with all the backlash against Gaetz:
