Preparedness

Preppers rejoice! The Trump administration has implemented deregulation of gas cans, reversing previous requirements for complex designs. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced that simpler gas cans will now be legal options, responding to public feedback about usability issues, as part of broader deregulation initiatives. Environmental groups, however, criticize the rollback, arguing that modern designs were intended to reduce spills and emissions, and this change could increase pollution risks.

US Politics

Developments in the Jeffrey Epstein case continue to unfold. Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyer confirmed that she fully cooperated in a recent Department of Justice interview, answering all questions without invoking any privileges. However, sources close to the investigation have suggested that her responses may not have provided substantial new information, casting doubt on the extent of her cooperation. Additionally, Senator Mullin introduced a resolution on the Senate floor calling for the immediate unsealing of all Epstein files, including grand jury materials, with redactions only to protect victims. Some Democrats and legal experts, however, have expressed concerns about potential privacy violations and the precedent of releasing such sensitive materials.

According to an opinion piece by Koybko, Senator Lindsey Graham manipulated President Donald Trump into taking a tougher stance against Russia, emphasizing Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, which Graham claims are valued at over a trillion dollars. Graham, who has received significant donations from the defense industry, has advocated for increased US involvement in Ukraine and steep tariffs on Russia’s trading partners. Critics have raised concerns that such actions could lead to prolonged conflict or economic consequences for American consumers. In a counterpoint, some sources, including a senior US Department of Defense official, argue that Graham’s stance aligns with broader national security interests regarding Ukraine’s strategic resources, rather than solely personal or financial motives.

Health

Flagship Pioneering, the biotech firm behind Moderna, has launched Terrana Biosciences to develop sprayable RNA for crops, intended to persist and become heritable across generations. The technology is designed to improve agricultural sustainability, though some have raised concerns about potential health risks and ethical implications of synthetic RNA in food supplies. Environmental and scientific groups have also called for further research into the long-term ecological impacts and public safety of such technologies.

A policy change in the US will result in the removal of thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative, from flu vaccines, following a recommendation by a federal advisory panel and approval by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. With 96 percent of this season’s flu shots already thimerosal-free, officials anticipate the transition will occur without supply disruptions. However, some experts, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, caution that this move could increase vaccine costs or lead to shortages, noting that thimerosal has been deemed safe by numerous studies.

Geopolitics

Turkey unveiled the hypersonic Tayfun Block 4 missile, a 7.2-tonne weapon with a 1,000-kilometer range, at a national arms fair amid rising regional tensions related to the Israel-Iran conflict. Turkish leadership highlighted the missile, along with other advanced weaponry and space projects, as part of efforts to strengthen military capabilities. Some regional analysts and outlets, however, warn that this development could escalate tensions and potentially contribute to an arms race in the Middle East.

Financial measures are increasingly being used in Western democracies to address perceived threats to democratic principles, with NATO’s cognitive warfare initiatives and the EU’s CFSP 2025/966 regulation allowing for asset freezes and online bans against individuals or entities accused of undermining democracy. Examples include Canada’s freezing of bank accounts linked to “Freedom Convoy” protesters in 2022, as well as similar actions targeting activists and journalists in the US, UK, and EU. These measures have sparked debate about the potential impact on access to banking services. Defenders of the EU’s sanctions, including the EU Council, argue that such measures are necessary to combat foreign disinformation and protect democratic institutions, with legal frameworks in place to ensure fair application.

Economy

The US-China trade war may be shifting focus from tariffs to currency dominance. China’s central bank head has emphasized efforts to internationalize the yuan, while the BRICS bloc advocates for alternatives to the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency, a status significant to the US given its $37 trillion debt. Experts have pointed to China’s development of digital payment systems and the potential use of financial sanctions as areas of contention, with the US responding through stablecoins and legislative measures aimed at preserving dollar dominance. Recent reports indicate China is making strides in promoting the yuan internationally, with several countries showing interest in yuan-based trade settlements, suggesting the push for alternatives is gaining traction.

Is cambodia government that one that uses airstrikes casually to hit their own citizens? I cant think good things out of that place.

I will be VERY ,VERY grateful about the gas can deregulation.

I rarely spilled more than a drop of gasoline even when transferring the contents of a 5 gallon can usually spilling not even a drop. I would patiently wait for that snozzle to drain, then tap it a couple of times before removing it and recapping it.

Overtime the @$_#&#$ !? Blanking #$##$?!* Contraptions got worse and worse.

I have repeatedly ordered the multi packs of snozzles and vents from eBay only to have them captured in customs.

Eventually places like rural king and tractor supply co, carried them but at a much greater cost and they were always subpar.

I may have (unknowingly) broken the law, but I ripped the springs, valves and other annoying crap out of all my gas cans. They still work fine and I think I actually spill less.

Glad you could vent.

Same here. But over time they became more complicated and the Caps no longer worked once the contraptions were removed.

I lost many of my gas cans to Helene, and had to start all over on deEPA measures. The replacement costs were bad enough, however the new and improved EPA nonsense was a much larger insult.

Had Cackles had this issue on her platform…hmmm

The occasional drip from gas cans is a big nothing burger compared to the damage that the Palestine rail crash caused.
Always the elites go for the petty little things - “straining at gnats while ignoring the weightier matters”.

It was worth voting for trump for gas can deregulation alone. Its been ridiculous.

Oh, thank God. I was secretly hiding my gas can spigot retardation, thinking I was alone in my ignorance…

Hey, hang on - I’m only finding surface level hopium so far. Anyone, please rescue me from my ignorance and/or blindness.

Thursday’s EPA press release only seems to encourage manufacturers to include a (separate) vent on portable fuel containers.

The above article explains some of the many regulations on “pfc’s”, including child proofing and flashback arrestors. EPA is addressing consumer complaints by blaming the poor gas flow on the container manufacturers, suggesting that they just gave up on making a vent that meets all the gov’t requirements.

EPA’s recent action doesn’t just take us back to the good ol days of a totally open flexi hose, or thumb operated nozzle and small flip top at the back that can be opened for venting, the actual act only requiring one hand, and maybe a knee.

EPA’s two page “you can do better” letter to manufacturers dated July 24, 2025 linked near bottom of the page, here:

Can still get totally open replacement flexy nozzles online, and more expensive but immediately in-hand through untraceable paper transactions at tractor supply.

Yes, gas nozzles are trivial, however :

Holding a 5 gallon gas can above your center of gravity with one arm while it barely dribbles as you use the second hand to activate the snozzle contraption is a “weighty matter” if you do land maintenance for a living. Filling gasoline powered generators all winter was a B I also mentored two people who were displaced, homeless and lost jobs cars etc due to helene into working for themselves doing yard work last year, so this impacts lots of folks in my little world.

Make GasCans Great Again!

O.G. gas cans for a Better America!

For me it was about the slow down, as well as it requiring one hand to engage the spout contraption. I fuel large mowers and tractors with entire 5 gallon cans of fuel. It’s alot for me hold 5 gallons up with one arm. The stupid sprouts are not sturdy enough to support the weight without leaking or popping off the can which leaves it to me. I end up having to use a funnel and a lack of vent will cause splashing etc.

The spilled and dropped fuel that results from. EPA crap is far greater an insult to the environment than the little bit of fume that might escape from a proper snap vent.

I plan to buy some steel Jerry type cans at some point because now the newer plastic cans have weak seams and will split and leak when it’s hot so they are a fire hazard, but thank a tree hugger, they are EPA approved.

Long term, steel cans are great if you do something to prevent bottom rusting. Oil, paint, spray undercoating etc.

Etc= zero ethanol/zero water formulations! Had some great ones in the 90’s/early oughties that rusted through from the inside. So sad, and made a huge mess.

Create air space under cans by placing them on untreated 2x4 blocks

Yes…but over a decade or two I somehow don’t always do that hence the constant repainting and undercoating…
