Thomas Massie plans to introduce the “No Immunity for Glyphosate Act” this week to repeal protections in a recent executive order for glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, according to legislative previews. The Trump administration defended the executive order, arguing it prioritizes national security, defense readiness, and affordable food production. Massie’s bill seeks to hold manufacturers accountable for the herbicide’s effects.

In other news, several U.S. hospitals, including NYU Langone, have ended transgender youth health programs amid expected federal investigations under the Trump administration. Officials cited the exit of medical directors and changing regulations. A former NYU plastic surgery resident described observing surgeries on patients as young as 13 and expressed regret for not raising concerns earlier, crediting recent shifts for prompting change. Reviewed data indicated limited evidence that such interventions improved mental health or reduced suicide risks, leading to reevaluations influenced by financial and legal factors. Advocates for gender-affirming care warned of increased suicide risks among transgender youth without such programs.

Lastly, a coalition of 15 organizations, including Children’s Health Defense led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is promoting model legislation like Idaho’s Medical Freedom Act to end vaccine and mask mandates nationwide. Idaho’s law bars businesses and schools from requiring medical interventions. Other members, linked to the Make America Health Again movement, stress voluntary access. Iowa passed House File 2368, prohibiting mandates for employment or services, and House File 2171, dropping K-12 immunization requirements. In New Hampshire, House Bill 1811 to repeal school vaccine mandates awaits a vote, joined by House Bill 1719 removing hepatitis B requirements and House Bill 1584 easing religious exemptions with rights notices. Supporters described these as restoring informed consent and parental rights after COVID. Critics warned that such measures could undermine herd immunity and lead to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.

US Politics

The Federal Aviation Administration has required U.S. commercial airlines to certify merit-based pilot hiring, ending race- or sex-based practices, or face investigations. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said passengers deserve the most qualified pilots regardless of appearance or gender. The mandate aligns with President Trump’s executive order against discriminatory preferences and a memo ending FAA diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford emphasized that hiring prioritizes cognitive skills, qualifications, and technical knowledge for safety.

In Kansas, lawmakers overrode Governor Laura Kelly’s veto to pass a law defining male and female by birth sex on driver’s licenses, birth certificates, and public facility restrooms. The Senate voted 31-9 on party lines, and the House followed. Attorney General Chris Kobach noted potential fines up to $1,000 and criminal charges for violations. Proponents said it protects women in private spaces; previously altered documents must be corrected. Governor Kelly criticized the bill as poorly drafted with far-reaching consequences.

Privacy & Surveillance

Amazon-owned Ring canceled plans to integrate with Flock Safety, which operates automated license plate readers for police. The decision followed criticism of a Super Bowl ad for Ring’s “Search Party” feature, which uses AI on participating cameras to find lost pets. Privacy advocates called it a potential surveillance risk, citing Flock’s work with law enforcement and federal agencies. Ring said the partnership demanded more resources than expected and confirmed no videos were shared. A leaked internal email from Ring’s CEO reportedly indicated the feature was envisioned as a foundation for broader neighborhood crime reduction. The company noted user controls for opt-in sharing and described the cancellation as addressing public feedback while upholding privacy options.

Separately, Whole Foods Market will remove Amazon One palm-scan payment devices from more than 500 stores nationwide by June 3, according to company statements, due to low customer adoption. The system linked palm scans to Amazon accounts for contactless checkout and processed over a million authentications monthly in some locations. Shoppers at a Manhattan store told reporters they had not used or seen the scanners, with some expressing privacy concerns about sharing biometric data amid alternatives like mobile wallets and cards. Amazon stated that all related data, including securely stored and encrypted palm images not shared with third parties, will be permanently deleted. Retail analysts attributed the low usage to the prevalence of established contactless payment methods.

Canadian Politics

Neighbors of Universal Ostrich Farms in Edgewood, British Columbia, filed a civil claim in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the federal government, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The suit alleges a warrantless seizure and 52-day occupation of their 28-acre property on September 22, 2025, due to a misidentified CFIA warrant targeting the farm. A recent tribunal ruled the CFIA’s quarantine notice to the farm invalid due to improper service. Plaintiffs claim police checkpoints requiring ID, drone surveillance, property damage, spread of slaughter materials, and nearly 1,000 rounds fired nearby during a November 6 cull without notice. They seek remedies for alleged trespass, interference, harassment, assault, battery, and psychological harm, plus land cleanup and damages.

Environment

In the U.K., Yeo Valley Organic’s Holt Farm has engaged the community in wildlife monitoring through regenerative farming. Leaders joined a dung beetle survey among cowpats, tracking species like dung beetles, skylarks, adders, and hazel dormice across fields and hedgerows. Ecologist Patrick Hancock set transects in woodlands, agroforestry, and pastures, sharing iNaturalist app sightings via WhatsApp with staff and locals. Residents reported increased wildlife observations, including deer, woodcock, fieldfare, redwing, merlin, short-eared owls, corn buntings, hares, barn owls, house martins, black caps, woodpeckers, nuthatches, and goldcrests. Mob grazing has improved soil health, earthworms, and invertebrates, supporting birds and reducing pests in a “land sharing” approach. Some retailers have expressed wariness over unsubstantiated regenerative farming claims.

Someone here might remember my several posts about the palm scanners at Whole Foods and my independent “research” talking to people there about it. My queries yielded mostly concern about it but a few zombies who were like “I have nothing to hide, I love it!”

So glad it’s gone! We have power dudes!
