Rep. Thomas Massie and other members of Congress introduced H.R. 9694, the Epstein Files Transparency Act II. The bill would allow state attorneys general, victims, and members of Congress to sue for enforcement of prior disclosure requirements and would bar certain privileges used to withhold records. New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez endorsed the measure.
Artificial Intelligence
A university researcher developed a browser extension called InTruth intended to catch politicians lying in real-time. It does so by transcribing statements during debates, retrieving supporting sources, and using Claude to evaluate claims against current evidence. Skeptics have noted potential bias from reliance on media sources often viewed as left-leaning, as well as ongoing costs associated with the AI model.

Privacy Guides, operated by MAGIC Grants since 2019, provides recommendations for private alternatives across more than 40 categories. All listings undergo public review and meet published criteria. Options include tracker-blocking browsers, zero-knowledge email services, no-log VPNs, self-hostable password managers, encrypted DNS, and GrapheneOS.
US Politics
Federal banking regulators closed a loophole permitting loans to illegal immigrants with limited verification. The OCC, FDIC, and NCUA advised banks to require evidence of work authorization and to monitor lending concentrations in areas affected by immigration enforcement. The guidance implements President Trump’s May executive order. Critics have described the guidance as a potential tactic to encourage self-deportation by limiting access to credit.

- Free-market economy: 53% favorable, 12% unfavorable, +41 net
However, Democrats in the same poll favored greater DSA influence within the party by a 46% to 21% margin.
Health
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is preparing a rulemaking process for a formal COVID-19 vaccine injury table, with a proposal expected in November. The table would identify presumed injuries within set time frames under the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program. A lawsuit alleges HHS failed to create the table required by the PREP Act. Critics have raised concerns that political considerations could override scientific determinations in identifying included injuries.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Standing Committee on Vaccination updated its guidance to discontinue recommending COVID-19 vaccines for most people under the age of 75. Remaining positive recommendations are for those 75 and older, citing hybrid immunity and declining severe outcomes, as well as for individuals at elevated risk. Some observers have noted Austria’s continued recommendation of annual boosters for certain groups and concerns regarding Long Covid risks.
In other news, the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated roughly 500 lawsuits alleging failure to warn about risks of Tylenol use during pregnancy. The panel held that disputes over expert testimony belong before a jury. Kenvue has stated that credible independent science shows no proven link between acetaminophen use and autism or ADHD.
Lastly, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier issued a civil subpoena to General Mills regarding potassium bromate in bakery flour sold in the state. The compound is banned as a food additive in the EU, Canada, China, India, and several Latin American countries. However, the FDA has maintained that the additive is harmless when used properly.
