Health
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is ending the emergency declarations that had extended liability protections for COVID-19 vaccine, drug, and device makers. The vaccine and drug declarations end June 29, 2027, and device declarations end December 26, 2026. Critics, including a Washington Examiner op-ed, warn that removing liability protections could hinder future medical innovation.
Meanwhile, Kaiser Permanente agreed to pay $358,000 and revise its religious-accommodation procedures to settle 12 discrimination charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regarding its 2021 COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The agreement requires one year of EEOC monitoring, employment-opportunity training, and updated accommodation processes. The company admits no liability.
In other news, President Trump signed an executive order on June 25 directing the USDA, HHS, and EPA to expand regenerative agriculture practices and examine cumulative chemical exposures in the food supply. The order enlarges the existing $700 million Regenerative Agriculture Pilot Program, which has produced over 67,000 whole-farm conservation plans covering 49 million acres. The USDA also issued a Regenerative Feedstock Rule linking soil-restoration practices to biofuel markets. Critics have described the order as a potential “bait-and-switch” that could advance gene-edited soil microbes and related tools.
Lastly, researchers at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology reported in Gut Microbes that a bacterium isolated from Japanese tree frog intestines eliminated tumors in a mouse colorectal cancer model after one intravenous dose. The treatment outperformed standard checkpoint inhibitors and chemotherapy in the study.
US Politics
Tucker Carlson stated that he plans to help build a third political party focused on domestic issues and the welfare of ordinary Americans rather than foreign conflicts, emphasizing that the U.S. government’s first priority should be its own citizens. Separately, Marjorie Taylor Greene also revealed active discussions for a new third-party movement, asserting that Americans “have been betrayed” by the two-party system and outlining the We The People Party as anti-corruption, anti-mandates, pro-accountability, and pro-decentralization. Greene noted that building such a movement would require time and broad involvement from the American people rather than quick electoral cycles.
Turning to judicial news, in a 6-3 ruling in Chatrie v. US, the Supreme Court held that geofence warrants are subject to Fourth Amendment protections. Additionally, in a 6-3 decision in West Virginia v. B.P.J., the Supreme Court ruled that states may limit girls’ school sports to biological females without violating Title IX or the Equal Protection Clause.
Following the Supreme Court decision to uphold birthright citizenship, Senator Bernie Moreno introduced the Immigration Stabilization Act of 2026, and Senator Rand Paul filed an actual constitutional amendment. Moreno’s legislation would revise Senator Harry Reid’s 1993 bill that would exclude children born to mothers who are neither citizens nor lawful residents. However, critics argue that birthright citizenship is enshrined in the 14th Amendment and cannot be altered by statute alone. Also following the SCOTUS decision, Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald directed prosecutors to prioritize birth-tourism investigations.
Meanwhile, the Justice Department sued California on July 1, arguing that Assembly Bill 1127 and the state’s handgun roster violate the Second and Fourteenth Amendments. California contends that such pistols are not protected “arms” under the Second Amendment or qualify as “dangerous and unusual” weapons, and Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized the lawsuit as politically motivated.
In law enforcement news, Federal authorities arrested ten defendants in a 65-count superseding indictment charging sex trafficking along South Los Angeles’s Figueroa Corridor. Prosecutors identified 51 alleged victims. A motel manager faces separate charges for laundering more than $64,000 in proceeds.
In other news, the House voted 420-0 to require preservation and public release of records on taxpayer-funded sexual misconduct settlements involving members of Congress.
Privacy & Surveillance
Residents in multiple cities have removed Flock Safety automated license-plate readers. Two campaigns, Operation Flockout and Knock the Flock, aim to eliminate all such cameras nationwide by 2027. However, some argue that the cameras do not remove liberty and serve legitimate law enforcement purposes.
Artificial Intelligence
Local governments in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Missouri approved temporary pauses on hyperscale data-center projects. DeSoto County, Florida, enacted a one-year moratorium. Brookville, Pennsylvania, passed a 180-day moratorium, and the Pennsylvania House voted 197-5 to repeal a related sales-tax break. Springfield, Missouri, is considering a 120-day pause.
Epstein Files
District Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered the Department of Justice to release additional unredacted Epstein records by July 2 or justify any withholdings. Separately released transcripts include statements from Bill Gates to the House Oversight Committee regarding his contacts with Epstein. However, the DOJ requested a two-month extension, citing risks to victims’ identities.
