We explored how markets are still pretending everything is fine while the underlying fundamentals point to a historic shock that’s only weeks away.
US, Japan, EU and Korea made a disaster attempt in deploying the wrong eChem before it’s prime. Ternary batteries ( Toxic Nickel based - 3 metals - Li-Ion) have a short cycle life - <1000 vs 4000+ vs LFP ( Li-Iron-Phosphate ) . Ternary cells have advantages for traction but are not suitable for use in stationary ESS - Energy Storage Systems. IMO, for ESS It’s better to have 20kWh in a LFP pak than 50 kWh in a Ternary pak in terms of safety, useable lifetime energy and economics. Hence why the write down of all these battery plants in the west and the china advantage. It will that the west a long long time to scale up and re-tool. Most Tesla’s in international markets are China sourced LFP. In the US Tesla’s are domestically produced Ternary cells but Tesla has advantages by using smaller format cells which can be managed. This is now an non issue since all stationary Paks and all utility mass storage is now LFP. Ternary paks cycle in costs is 3-5x more expensive in terms of $/kWh. Batteries are now center stage since PV power is so affordable. climate change? Sure - but it’s all about reaching Kardashev Level 2 or die.

In Sports, the “Garbage Time” is that point in the Sports Competition when it’s clearly obvious which team is going to win such that the Competition is no longer a competition and the spectators start heading for the exits out of boredom.

This destruction of formerly isolated infrastructure seems to be a sort of drone-enhanced fourth generation warfare. I very much fear that it is here to stay, and that the days of large open-air industrial plants protected only by remote locations, high fences, and a handful of guards are coming to a close.
