Economy

Indian stocks lost ₹5.5 trillion ($57.7 billion) in value, with the Sensex and Nifty each dropping over 1%. Prime Minister Modi urged India’s 1.4 billion citizens to halt gold purchases for a year, avoid foreign travel, and reduce fuel use to preserve foreign exchange reserves amid an energy crisis. State Bank of India shares fell 4.14%, Titan Company 6.72%, ABB India 8.77%, and IndiGo 4.8%. India’s forex reserves have dropped $38 billion since the war began, leaving eight months of import cover at current rates, with the rupee at a record low of 95.23 against the dollar. Each $10 per barrel increase in oil prices adds $13-14 billion to India’s annual import bill. Some analysts described the decline as a temporary correction amid global geopolitical stresses.

Back in the US, Kraft Heinz CEO Steve Cahillane stated that consumers in lower-income brackets are experiencing negative cash flows and dipping into savings toward the end of the month. Executives from Whirlpool, McDonald’s, Dine Brands, Warby Parker, and Planet Fitness reported similar pressures on shoppers. Gas prices stood at $4.56 per gallon—the highest since July 2022—affecting low-income households and discretionary spending. Personal savings rates have fallen to a three-year low as spending growth outpaces income growth, accompanied by rising credit card debt. The University of Michigan sentiment survey indicates record-low pessimism among Americans, who account for 70% of US GDP. This contrasts with the S&P 500 near all-time highs and April nonfarm payrolls adding 115,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s Food Price Index averaged 130.7 in April, up 1.6% from March and the highest since February 2023. Vegetable oil prices rose 5.9% to a level not seen since July 2022, due to increases in palm, soy, rapeseed, and sunflower oil amid biofuel demand, higher crude prices, and tight Black Sea supplies linked to Middle East disruptions. Cereal prices increased 0.8%, rice 1.9%, and meat prices reached a record high with a 1.2% gain, while dairy and sugar prices declined. Wheat and maize prices faced pressures from weather concerns in the US, Australia, and Brazil, as well as fertilizer costs tied to elevated energy prices and Strait of Hormuz issues.

Geopolitics

President Trump described Iran’s response to a US peace proposal as “totally unacceptable” on Truth Social. Iran reportedly offered to transfer enriched uranium but refused to dismantle nuclear facilities. Iran submitted the reply via Pakistan amid ceasefire skirmishes, including US firing on Iranian tankers and Iran targeting US warships. Tehran warned of strikes on French and British vessels approaching the Strait of Hormuz, asserting sole control over its security, while the IRGC threatened US bases for attacks on Iranian ships. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, recovering from injuries, met military commanders who reported high readiness. Iran’s Foreign Ministry described its counteroffer as reasonable and generous for regional stability.

In a recent opinion piece, Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal stated the US-Israeli war aimed to ignite a Saudi-Iran conflict for Israeli regional dominance, but Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman endured Iranian strikes to avoid escalation, supporting Gulf allies and mediating with Pakistan. Some reports noted Saudi Arabia hosted US bases and allowed overflights during the strikes on Iran.

Further, neoconservative commentator Bob Kagan wrote in The Atlantic that the US suffered a total, unprecedented defeat in the Iran war—unlike losses in Vietnam or Afghanistan—damaging its global position irreparably. He stated that Iran has established a permission-based regime in the Strait of Hormuz, demanding tolls and limiting transit, forcing Gulf states to accommodate it as the US proved unable to respond effectively with depleted weapons stocks. Kagan argued that no coalition can reopen the strait if the US Navy cannot.

Meanwhile, at least 50 people died in Lebanon over 24 hours from Israeli airstrikes, including 23 on Saturday in Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, Sidon, and Tyre, with rescue operations ongoing. Hezbollah launched drone and rocket attacks, injuring three Israeli reservists—one seriously—and damaging an unmanned vehicle. Israel issued evacuation orders but struck some areas without prior warnings, while maintaining a buffer zone in southern Lebanon despite a collapsed 10-day ceasefire. Lebanese officials accused Israel of cultural genocide through demolitions targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun urged the US ambassador to pressure Israel to halt ceasefire violations.

Additionally, the US-backed Board of Peace warned in a letter to Palestinian officials that the October 2025 Gaza ceasefire would become null and void without Hamas disarmament in phase two. Terms include Hamas surrendering weapons within 90 days, Israel halting attacks, increasing aid to 600 trucks daily (currently averaging 200), reopening Rafah, and withdrawing behind the Yellow Line. Hamas rejected the Cairo proposal, calling it a trap without statehood guarantees and citing Israeli violations that killed 832 Palestinians since the truce, plus an airstrike on negotiator Khalil al-Hayya’s son. Israel controls nearly 60% of Gaza, with reconstruction aid tied to demilitarization. Over 1.5 million tons of food and medical aid have reportedly entered Gaza since the ceasefire.

Lastly, North Korea revised its constitution during the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly session on March 22. The changes to Article 3 codify automatic nuclear strikes if Kim Jong Un is assassinated or the nuclear command system is threatened by hostile attacks, emphasizing retaliatory procedures. The revisions follow February 2026 US-backed Israeli strikes on Iran’s leadership, which some analysts described as a wake-up call for Pyongyang. The amendments also remove references to unification with South Korea, define borders including with the south, and affirm Kim’s nuclear command authority, as North Korea expands its arsenal.

Energy

Global oil inventories are depleting at 4.8 million barrels per day due to the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz for two months, the fastest drawdown on record. Reserves built for such crises are nearing exhaustion:

  • Operational stress by June 2026, with governments rationing fuel
  • Absolute minimums by September, potentially halting pipelines, refineries, and terminals
  • Pakistan has 20 days of fuel left
  • Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines face weeks of shortages
  • Europe’s jet fuel stocks have dropped 33% ahead of summer
  • US strategic reserves are at 1982 lows despite record releases

Post-reopening restocking would increase demand further.

Health

Writing for the Brownstone Institute, Dr. Clayton Baker, MD, stated that if Hantavirus is spreading person-to-person, it has likely been weaponized through gain-of-function manipulation. Hantaviruses primarily infect rodents and spread to humans via inhalation of infected droppings or urine, with human cases rare. Human-to-human transmission is documented only for the Andes virus species in Argentina and Chile. The ship visited Argentina, home to this strain. Over a dozen groups, including the US Army and Moderna, are researching hantavirus vaccines, following past nominations of the virus as a potential Disease X pathogen. The outbreak of hantavirus infections occurred aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship after departing from Argentina, and health authorities stated there is a low public risk from the outbreak.

Hantavirus is not new in humans. It is a very poor candidate for a global crisis. If this one becomes a matter of broad concern it suggests a psyop, a bioengineered virus, or both. In which case, there will be no obvious place to go for objective data. I suggest following those who shined during Covid.

Ben Wehrman posts a computer simulation experiment / demonstration of two populations living together.

  1. The WHITE DOTS are individuals who “follow the golden-rule” of treating others the way that they would want to be treated.
  2. The RED DOTS follow in-group bias, sharing with their in-group but taking from the out group.

Both are survival strategies.

3 minute video.

The specific parameters of this simulation can be “gamed” to produce a desired outcome. So, I would not consider this simulation as proof of anything. But it does illustrate a trend that we have seen played out in the real world many times.

Eventually, the WHITE DOTS catch on to what is happening and will conclude that they must RADICALLY change the game.

This later-stage portion of the interaction between RED and WHITE survival strategies is not shown in the simulation. But smart PP members will be able to think of multiple times the next stage has been acted out.

Is that where we want to go?

The Last Tanker

Matt Bracken reposts a substack article by someone I had never heard of, Mark Shryock.

WHAT “TANK BOTTOMS” MEANS AND WHY IT WILL END YOUR WAY OF LIFE

You are going to hear a phrase in the coming days that most Americans have never encountered: tank bottoms.

EIGHT WEEKS TO EMPTY SHELVES. SIXTY DAYS TO FAMINE.

WHAT CAUSED IT, AND WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IMMEDIATELY.

For those of us who follow Chris, this is not a surprise. But others are getting it too.

The first to run out is diesel.

Diesel is not a luxury fuel. Diesel is the blood supply of the American economy. Seventy percent of all agricultural and food products in the United States are transported by truck. Every truck runs on diesel. Every tractor in every field runs on diesel. Every combine harvester runs on diesel. Every refrigerated trailer keeping food cold on its way to your grocery store runs on diesel. Every freight train pulling grain cars runs on diesel.

Just finished reading this article. Very alarming.

I’d like to know what @cmartenson thinks about it when he has a moment. The general points that Chris has been saying are there. I am wondering about the details and if this author has it right or not.

Agree or disagree with the author, you need to read this.

It’s one thing not acting Presidential or Statesman like, because I never expected that from Trump. But being a total Asshole on the world stage and committing war crimes while being an A-Hole is on a totally different level.

China is the big benefactor here as they hold all the cards, i.e. manufacturing and rare earth minerals along with processing them. Martin Armstrong years ago predicted that China would be the global financial superpower by 2032 and his prediction looks to be right on queue.

@spiritualwarrior,

My take is that this article articulates what Chris has said multiple times.

It quotes the same guy, Jeff Currie, senior advisor at the Carlyle Group, told Bloomberg Television on May 6, 2026,

that oil storage tanks in Europe will hit tank bottoms “sometime in the month of May” and in the United States “somewhere in that July 4th period.” He said he has “never seen anything like it before.”

Iran was fighting an asymmetric war. They figured shutting down the global economy and having the US and Israel blamed was the correct strategy. The impact from this war will be the Covid Plandemic x10.

That’s why all the former CIA, military veterans and diplomats have said, that’s why Iran won this war and the US cannot defeat them.

This war is akin to David hitting Goliath in the nuts with a 2x4.

That is exactly the way I feel.

Oftentimes, when I see one of his adolescent posts I think, “will you just shut the f*ck up.”

I understand what you are saying and agree with the fact that the article articulates some of what Chris has already stated in posts here at PP. I do not doubt some of the details.

What I am wondering is about the timing of tank bottoms in the U.S. No one has a crystal ball (not even Chris) and I am skeptical about accepting such a fixed-point-in-time collapse narrative as the author has suggested. Some of the people who’ve posted comments to this article are wondering the same thing. Complex systems do not have fixed timelines.
