Payette, Idaho, police arrested 23-year-old Andrea Shaw on two counts of first-degree murder more than a year after her fraternal twins were found dead on May 1, 2025, eight days after receiving vaccinations. Shaw and her mother-in-law said they had warned the pediatrician of a family history of adverse vaccine reactions. An ER physician had diagnosed a post-immunization reaction, and the family filed a VAERS report. According to mainstream news reports, after a lengthy multi-agency investigation involving forensic services and the medical examiner, a grand jury found probable cause to indict Shaw for first-degree murder, treating the deaths as homicides.

In other vaccine news, Professor Angus Dalgleish of the University of London stated that beginning in late 2021, he observed increased cancer relapses in long-term remission patients after COVID booster doses and aggressive new cases in younger people. He cited rises in several cancers and reports from colorectal surgeons of more stage IV cases with thrombotic features. Dalgleish listed possible mechanisms, including immune dysregulation and SV40 promoter sequences in some vaccine lots, and called for independent investigation.

US Politics

In Colorado’s 1st Congressional District Democratic primary, 29-year-old democratic socialist Melat Kiros, endorsed by Bernie Sanders and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), defeated 15-term Rep. Diana DeGette. This upset extends a recent winning streak for the party’s left wing, including high-profile DSA victories in New York City the prior week, highlighting how socialists are on the move and intensifying internal Democratic tensions. The result is being framed by GOP strategists as evidence of the socialist takeover of the Democrat Party expanding beyond deep-blue urban strongholds into Western swing-state districts.

In other news from the left, Jonathan Turley reported on a paper by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam professor Zakia Essanhaji that claims white time colonizes temporality by extracting the time of academics of color through insecure contracts and shifting promotion criteria. The paper draws on claims by Rutgers professor Brittney Cooper and Charles W. Mills. Turley stated that the work relies on counter-storytelling rather than statistical analysis and operates as a self-citing system intended to loosen objective tenure standards.

Geopolitics

Rifts between the East and West continue to grow. Russia closed seven railway crossings with Finland, Estonia, and Latvia, effective July 1, after Finland’s parliament voted 125-61 on June 17 to end its ban on nuclear weapons. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said response measures would follow. The closures leave Finland, which joined NATO in 2023, with no open rail crossings to Russia.

Meanwhile, China’s Commerce Ministry placed 40 Japanese entities under export controls on dual-use goods, citing Japan’s pursuit of new militarism. Twenty entities, including the National Institute for Defense Studies and divisions of Mitsubishi Corporation, were added to a prohibition list. Another 20, including Mitsui E&S, Fujitsu, Komatsu, and Terra Drone, face enhanced licensing requirements. The measures followed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s statement that Japan could intervene if China attacks Taiwan, as well as Japan’s deployment of long-range missiles and a new Type-12 launcher on Minamitorishima. Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara called the controls unacceptable and said Japan would respond.

In other news, Visual Capitalist projections based on the UN’s 2024 World Population Prospects show total fertility rates above the 2.1 replacement level in most of Africa, Central Asia, and parts of the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and below it in Europe, most of the Americas, and East Asia. Chad recorded the highest rate at 5.94, followed by Somalia and the DRC. South Korea (0.75), Hong Kong (0.74), and Macao (0.69) recorded the lowest. Tunisia is Africa’s only sub-replacement country. Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala remain above replacement while nearly all other countries in the Americas fall below.

Relatedly, Nicholas Eberstadt of the American Enterprise Institute noted that peak birth years for most sub-replacement countries occurred around the early 1990s and that absolute birth totals in several nations have returned to pre-industrial levels. Japan’s 2024 births fell below its 1873 total. France recorded 639,000 births in 2023, about two-thirds of the 1806 figure. Italy’s 380,000 births in 2023 were below both its 1862 total and its Mussolini-era count. China’s 2025 births resemble early Qing Dynasty levels.

Artificial Intelligence

The Financial Times reported that Sam Altman proposed giving the U.S. government a 5% stake in OpenAI at an $852 billion valuation, modeled on the Alaska Permanent Fund. Altman reportedly discussed the idea with President Trump, Commerce Secretary Lutnick, Treasury Secretary Bessent, and Sen. Bernie Sanders, who argued the public stake should exceed 50%. The proposal followed federal equity positions in Intel and MP Materials. OpenAI’s IPO is now scheduled for 2027. Ed Zitron noted reports that Nvidia is renting back its own compute capacity from Neocloud providers.

Turning to legislation, an opinion article argues that Sanders’ AI bill would expand state ownership, resembling the corporatist model of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. The piece warned that state-owned AI could enable suppression of dissent and cited Russia’s National Wealth Fund as an example of potential abuse. It rejected both tariffs and socialism in favor of classical liberalism. According to Sanders’ official press release, his American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act would impose a one-time 50% tax on the stock of the largest AI companies (those generating over $200 million annually) to create a sovereign wealth fund giving the public a direct 50% ownership stake, managed by an Independent Commission for Democratic AI.

Rick Rule told EpochTV that AI-driven electrification faces a copper supply shortfall. S&P Global projects demand reaching 42 million metric tons by 2040 against a potential 10 million ton gap. The U.S. produced 850,000 metric tons of refined copper in 2025 against 2.2 million tons of consumption. Copper futures reached $6.20 per pound on June 28. Rule noted that new mines take about 18 years to develop and that the Resolution Copper project has awaited permits for over a decade.

WTI crude traded below $70 amid reported U.S.-Iran talks in Qatar. Goldman Sachs analyst Samantha Dart expects normalization of Hormuz flows and a shift to oversupply. DOE data showed a tenth consecutive weekly crude draw of 3.775 million barrels, while Cushing recorded its first build in ten weeks. Gulf Coast gasoline stocks reached their lowest level for this time of year since 2015. The SPR has released 89 million of a planned 172 million barrels since late March. Crack spreads widened as crude prices fell.

Bernie Sanders’s AI Bill: Fascism by Another Name

Sanders’s proposal, or similar proposals, could allow the state to gain control over the AI industry while preserving the appearance of private ownership. In that sense, such proposals can reasonably be described as fascistic, since they enable state control over production without formally abolishing the private sector.
