Negotiations Crumble as Gasoline and Diesel Prices Rise to a National Record

You have to be realistic - if you are the last guy driving in your county is that a safe thing to be doing?

I had to curtail my purchasing when I came to the realization that “this was it” and that I cannot afford to stockpile any more than about a year’s worth of consumables. I cannot replicate modern industrial civilization or bring forward more than a year’s worth of stuff - and the faster I make the transition to whatever is next, the better.

Sorry to jump into this thread, but I went and bought a bunch of 5 quart jugs of motor oil with specifically this concern. Filters too. But what happens if the diodes on my starter crap out? Well, off to the scrap yard, I suppose; but then the belts go; now, the light bulbs; next, the window actuator; dang, the blendoor; etc.. It takes an awful lot, and I don’t think it is wise to invest all that much on some of these things past a few months into a really deep crisis.

Excuse my density, but what exactly would Israel have to offer anyone, East, West, or Lunar?

Widely reported by our own CIA - Iran has “three to four months” left until it hits its own wall. Well, by then the Federal Reserve’s petro-US dollar will have collapsed, our Asian and European dependencies will be cut to the bone, and the swap to Tether and Ripple will be complete.

What is stunning is the relative calm here in the U.S. I would expect general mayhem in the streets when energy prices get too high; most Americans entire life is built on gasoline and diesel for day-to-day activities. I am less worried about Iran, and more worried about the lag time in Trump’s big LNG terminal and pipeline construction push and global demand on U.S. energy - because when we things get desperate here it is going to an ugly ethnic civil war that breaks out in various regions of the country. Trump’s domestic plans have not been talked about at all - it is all Hormuz, Iran, Israel, oil, oil, oil. What is the plan to keep Americans from just blowing their congressmen and senators away?

They have nothing to offer but death and destruction. However the Israel Lobby works the Media around the world. That’s why saying anything critical of Israel outside the US can get you in trouble with the law.

They are real good at playing the race and victim card.

I like to pressure can it in Mason jars and store in cellar

They can go much longer than that. That’s the same CIA that told Trump, kill their leader and you’ll topple the regime in a few days. Don’t worry, the Iranians are not stupid enough to close the SOH. Oops, that didn’t go according to plan. This is an asymmetric war that Iran is fighting. It’s like David hitting Goliath in the groin with a 2’x4’.

They have suffered thru decades of sanctions, suffered losses in the 8 year US led Iraq-Iran war.

Their leaders have been assassinated, school girls murdered. They have shown more endurance than the West. They see what has been done to them as an existential threat to their civilization.

They also have the backing of Russia, China and Pakistan. They will surely feel the pain but they are in the driver’s seat and they know it and will return more pain to their enemies.

presumable a pan to catch the old oil …not a spare sump?

I regard my various stashes as perhaps a 6 month buffer, assuming the worst of the zombies will be dead by then… after that, its a ‘settled mare’ apparently

I would challenge this. Motor oil doesn’t really break down or change, it is that when used in an engine it collects contaminants. In theory, if you could filter well enough, you could recycle your old oil…?

Explained to me by my old now retired uncle who was a mechanic for 50 years…

Though maybe that was before full synthetic types of oil, with additives etc…

Chris, Love your material. I just ran across this graph showing Proven Reserves and Production across nations.

Venezuela has more than 8x the oil reserves that the US has, but produces little (apx 1 Mbbl/day). Did Trump invade Venezuela before Iran because he is counting on Venezuelan production coming online soon, filling the gap?

I know for electrical transformers, oil is heated up and sent through filters using a “Bowser” machine to clean it. There is likely some process to do that with your used motor oil that is suboptimal but good enough for keeping things running a while longer.

Wait, did our CIA tell him to do the ol’ “cut off the head of the snake and air war, sir!”? I thought Joe Kent quit because the intel. was saying exactly the opposite!

Oh yes it does. It oxidizes. This changes the molecular structure breaking it down into different compounds. The additive package makes up ~10% and is arguably the most important component of motor oil. It degrades to unusability.
Here’s the science (15:50 the results part begins)

Yes there were stories about people successfully never changing their oil. My uncle, a machinist, did that, saying “the car gets used to the oil.”

I’d recommend getting oil analyzed when you change it at 10k miles. On one of my vehicles, I found that after 12k the wear numbers tended to increase. So, that vehicle was on a 10k oil change schedule.

Thanks for finding the science!
