Hi,You should not smell smoke from your woodburner inside the house. if the odor was first noticed during or following a "high fire" cycle, there is a fair chance that something got way too hot. I would recommend finding an experienced chimney person, who can explain things, so they make sense to a layperson in a simple manner, to give your whole system a thorough "Level 2" inspection. This is a specific procedure according to the NFPA 211 Standard For Solid Fuel installations. If your sweep is CSIA Certified they will be familiar with this process. Any time you notice a change in the behavior or operating characteristics of a wood burning installation, it is time to find out exactly why, ideally prior to further use. Fire in the middle of your house is nothing to be complacent about. I would be interested in hearing what you find.
Sweeps' Luck,
Ed
