Health

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a comprehensive study to investigate the causes of the autism “epidemic,” expected to conclude by September. This initiative involves hundreds of scientists globally, aiming to identify and eliminate environmental exposures linked to autism. RFK Jr. posted on X, “We are on the verge of understanding the root causes of the autism epidemic. This is a pivotal moment for public health.” However, Science Matters posted on X, “RFK Jr.’s claims about an autism ‘epidemic’ are misleading. The increase in autism diagnoses is largely due to better awareness, broader diagnostic criteria, and improved screening.”

Concurrently, Senator Ron Johnson has launched an investigation into vaccine safety, demanding records from manufacturers like Pfizer and Moderna, and probing Big Tech’s role in adverse event reporting. This follows allegations of data manipulation in vaccine safety studies, with concerns over the CDC’s handling of records related to vaccine safety.

Meanwhile, a new food pyramid model has been proposed by experts, advocating for a low-carb diet to combat rising rates of obesity and Type 2 diabetes. This model, published in Nutrients, places protein, full-fat dairy, and healthy fats at its base, challenging the traditional grain-centric dietary guidelines. Critics argue about the model’s environmental impact and its one-size-fits-all approach, but proponents highlight its potential therapeutic benefits for metabolic health. Dr. Anthony Chaffee argues that low-carb diets have historical precedence in treating various conditions, citing the 2005 Institute of Medicine report which found no minimum requirement for dietary carbohydrates. However, others emphasize the importance of a balanced diet including both plant and animal products, raising concerns about the environmental impact of diets high in animal products.

The House passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. This bill, which passed with a vote of 220-208, aims to amend the National Voter Registration Act to ensure only U.S. citizens participate in federal voting. Critics argue that it could disenfranchise eligible voters lacking easy access to identification documents. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has defended the bill, stating, “The SAVE Act is about ensuring the integrity of our elections. It’s common sense to require proof of citizenship to vote. This isn’t about disenfranchisement; it’s about protecting our democracy.” This news comes just as Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has said they have evidence of vulnerabilities within electronic voting machines that could be exploited to manipulate votes. According to Gabbard, the intelligence agencies under her oversight are now actively investigating these vulnerabilities.

In Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney has denied claims of meeting with the pro-Beijing Jiangsu Commerce Council of Canada, calling out misinformation. Despite a post by the group suggesting an “in-depth meeting,” Carney clarified that any interaction was likely incidental at public events, not a formal meeting. Carney himself told a reporter from the Globe and Mail that he had never heard of the JCCC and did not have a set-up meeting with them, emphasizing that being photographed with someone does not constitute a meeting.

Geopolitics

President Trump has hinted at potential military action against Iran, emphasizing Israel’s significant involvement, though clarifying that the U.S. retains autonomy in its decisions. This comes amidst ongoing tensions regarding Iran’s nuclear program, with indirect talks reportedly set to continue in Oman. Relatedly, recent polling has suggested a majority of Americans now hold an unfavorable opinion of Israel.

President Trump’s administration has been vocal about reevaluating U.S. global public goods. CEA Chairman Steve Miran has discussed the need for fairer burden sharing in security and trade. The U.S. provides a security umbrella and financial stability through the dollar’s reserve status, but at a significant cost to American taxpayers and workers. Trump’s strategy reportedly includes realigning defense and trade relationships to prioritize American interests, potentially through tariffs, increased defense spending by allies, and direct financial contributions. The Wall Street Journal highlighted the economic implications of the U.S. dollar’s role as the global reserve currency, noting the costs and benefits as outlined by Miran. However, Dr. Emily Carter, an economist, critiqued Miran’s views, arguing that the U.S. dollar’s status has more benefits than costs, and that trade deficits are not solely due to reserve currency status but also due to domestic policy choices and global economic dynamics.

Economy

The Federal Reserve is reportedly preparing for a potential multi-trillion dollar intervention due to the crisis in the bond market, where hedge funds have heavily leveraged positions in U.S. Treasuries. This situation could lead to significant financial instability, affecting everything from mortgage rates to retirement funds. The crisis stems from hedge funds’ reliance on borrowed funds to exploit price differences, now facing liquidity issues due to trade war fears and margin calls. A hedge fund manager highlighted the increasing margin calls and the forced selling of U.S. Treasuries by hedge funds, expressing concerns about the potential systemic risk this could pose to the financial markets.

Why do I think the study’s findings will exonerate the causers of autism? (He asked from his beach chair staring out at the Gulf of No One Will EVER Be Arrested.)

Quoth from The Science:

Whatever the reason, parents who had a perfectly healthy, normal child before a round of medically recommended and public school mandated vaccines then had a completely unrecognizable, semi-catatonic child a few days later are pathetic science deniers and conspiracy theorists who still believe the silly vaccine schedule vs autism rate chart.

This is utter nonsense. I am old enough to know. The disabilities we are seeing in children right now did not exist when I was growing up in the 1950’s. It has nothing to do with “better screening.” The obvious levels of disability we see today simply did not exist in the 1950’s or in the 1960’s.

It infuriates me seeing how people are trying to cover this up. It infuriates me even more that many people who are younger than myself fall for this nonsense.

When will we have legislation preventing these hedge funds from endangering all of us simply so that they can make undeserved profits by manipulating the system.

This nonsense has gone on long enough. It is time to put a stop to it.

Agreed 100%. Just ask anybody who went to a public school 30+ years and ask them how many kids in their class had “issues.” Sure, they weren’t screening as much, but this cannot possibly explain the orders of magnitude difference.

It’s the same lunacy as the “obesity comes from genetics” argument. Ask anybody who was around in the 60’s and 70’s and ask them how many people were overweight.

Clearly, both of these conditions are triggered environmentally.

But, willful ignorance is a thing…

Every IT person knows you should never give dates. Dumbass RFK.

If I remember correctly, I believe RFK had mentioned it was Trump who asked for an answer by September. I imagine as a manager Trump probably gave him a deadline and RFK was just repeating it back to him with confidence as all good employees do. “Sure, boss, we’ll have it by September!” Let’s see if he pulls it off. If it’s mostly a matter of crunching through already available data then it seems feasible to me, but in general I agree with you: under-promise and over-deliver!
