The Supreme Court ruled 5–4 in Watson v. Republican National Committee to uphold Mississippi’s law counting absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day if received within five business days. Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote for the majority that federal statutes do not define when ballots must arrive. Justice Samuel Alito dissented, arguing that receipt is part of the election process.
Meanwhile, Speaker Mike Johnson stated that reconciliation is the only viable route for the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship for federal voter registration. Punchbowl News reported House Republicans are considering a $4 billion grant program to encourage states to adopt such measures. Some Republican senators and critics have argued the SAVE Act is ineligible for reconciliation and would require 60 votes instead.
Iran War
The IDF destroyed a Hezbollah tunnel complex in southern Lebanon. Israeli officials stated the site was constructed with Iranian assistance. Israel Katz said a direct military confrontation with Iran could occur within two days. Hezbollah has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire by destroying the infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs confirmed plans for a joint drone production facility with Ukraine near the country’s eastern border. Russian media reported that most drones entering Latvian airspace have been Ukrainian-origin. RT framed the facility announcement as a potential escalation and questioned the logic of producing interceptors to counter Ukrainian drones.
Lastly, a report citing historian Peter Frankopan and Russian military bloggers stated that some new Russian recruits have survival times of 10 days to three weeks after deployment, with monthly casualties exceeding 30,000.

Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez declined to advance Senate Bill 1756, which would have added a conscience exemption to childhood vaccine requirements, barred mRNA school mandates, and permitted over-the-counter ivermectin. A KFF/Washington Post survey found 81% of parents support some school vaccine mandates. An unreleased Tony Fabrizio poll reportedly found 73% of voters concerned about childhood mandates and 90% concerned about pharmaceutical influence on policy.
