Side note, I gave up on Discord. I kept getting emails "Someone mentioned you in a comment". So I'd take the bait and never be able to find what they were referring to.This can be changed in the preferences. You don't have to get ANY notifications, if you don't want to. E.g., in the MacOS desktop app, this is how it looks like: Sever settings:

If you decide to keep using (really) old technology that is incompatible with newer technology, that is your problem to resolve, not PP. If you choose to not upgrade your software and/or hardware, then you have to accept that you will not be able to access some platforms and content not just at PP, but all across the internet. This is an unfortunate price of redundancy. But it is a price you are actively choosing to pay via your decision to not upgrade to newer technology.

Also, hiding implies you are doing something wrong. The term “dark web” for out of favor intellectuals was a terrible idea. The real dark web is a not-so underground global criminal conspiracy.
How about terming ourselves the “enlightened web”, as we shine our little candles in the darkness.
It is terrifying to contemplate what they intend to take away from you. However, they’ve taken even more from the sheep who do comply. When they get around to finding us, their retribution will be massive because we can’t be out there as that shining light. Our candles must be snuffed for them to succeed. Individually, we will be snuffed. If we identify like minded and hang together, perhaps we will be lest likely to hang separately. And, our individual candles can light signal fires on every hill to serve as the final beacon of resistance. Don’t go gently into the dark. Don’t hide.
Once they started vaccinating children, knowing that the gene therapy sucks, it was game over for me in terms of caring about consequences. That was the Rubicon. If they are willing to kill children, they are evil, and we can and should expect anything from them. I think most of us know that whomever takes a stand is at risk and may even be killed by state goons. Killed by goons or not killed by goons, definately prefer the latter, but both OK by me. At the end of the day the important thing is a life worth living, which also means that there are things worth dying for.

Ditto. Having some portion of the forum publicly accessible is ok, but I’d greatly prefer a members-only section. I find search engines and bots discourage free expression.

Do we need a forum? -as a traffic generator. Who is interested in my and your opinion? there is rumble etc.Yeah, I think that we do. As a repository of how-to knowledge, a well-run searchable forum is way better than rumble et al. While OK for day-to-day comments, knowledge slides through those and gets lost. Longer pieces don't get written, and short comments rule the day. (That can get snarky in a hurry, though I don't expect it from the people here.) I think a forum where you can ask "what plant is this?" or "how do I wire this up?" and have the answers hang around in searchable form will be a real asset to this community. In any case, we'll know soon! And I for one can't wait.
I too got a bunch of notifications but was never able to find the messages they allegedly referred to. The solution is not to turn off notifications but fix the damn Discord. I decided to write to Discord tech support about this. I got back bizarre responses that I took to be AI, telling me I should submit feature requests, to help make the platform better for everyone. The tone was very flip and trendy. Weird… But entirely useless.
If you understand how to find the messages that one gets notified about, that would be helpful.
I joined Discord when I first heard about it and it sounded great. The folk behind it looked good and the principles were sound. I joined some groups (or whatever they call them); read a load of comments and eventually chipped in some replies, especially where people’s questions were being ignored. I was blocked for “not following the rules”. I asked which rules but was not given a clear reply. They claimed that I was ‘giving advice’ on a thread where only people with certain credentials were allowed to do so but I was simply stating my opinion. I asked for clarification but got nothing back. Next time I logged in, a few days later, I discovered that I had been permanently banned (at least from that forum) because I had not grovelled within a certain time limit … and there was no recourse.
At that stage I cancelled my membership. The site no longer recognises my login credentials.
I found it to be the most censored platform that I have every signed up to; rivalling Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
It took me a while to work out that when you get a notification of a message in Discord that isn’t actually what it is. Discord sends this message to anyone on that group every time another member of the group posts something. There is probably a way of opting out of this but I just left due to too many notifications.
