Health

In the U.S., the Department of Health and Human Services has appointed Dr. David Geier to investigate potential links between vaccines and autism, reflecting ongoing concerns about vaccine safety. Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine advocate, has expressed skepticism about the appointment, citing the scientific consensus that vaccines do not cause autism.

New Zealand’s public health system is under scrutiny following their mass COVID-19 vaccination campaign, with concerns about the nation’s health status post-vaccination. Meanwhile, a rise in cancer rates among younger populations in the U.S. is reportedly causing concern. Some experts suggest this increase could be linked to immune system dysfunction, potentially exacerbated by COVID-19 and its vaccines. However, Dr. Sarah Thompson, a public health expert in New Zealand, emphasized the overall benefit of vaccination in preventing severe illness and death from COVID-19, urging a balanced view. The debate over vaccine safety continues in Canada, where an Ontario judge dismissed a case regarding vaccine injury, leading to public dissatisfaction over what some perceive as a lack of ‘duty of care.’ Health Canada maintains that vaccines undergo rigorous testing for safety and efficacy, highlighting their role in preventing severe disease outcomes.

Relatedly, a study published in The Japanese Journal of Antibiotics claims that ivermectin-based treatment protocols have shown 100% survival rates in hypoxemic COVID-19 patients. The study suggests the need for public health agencies to consider real-world evidence in treatment protocols. However, experts caution against over-interpretation of the results due to the study’s design limitations, emphasizing the need for more rigorous research.

In a separate development, the concept of “bodyoids” is being explored as a potential solution to ethical issues in medical research, offering a new frontier in biotechnology that could impact organ transplantation and drug development. While promising, the ethical implications of bodyoids are complex, with experts calling for extensive public discourse.

European Politics

London has installed its first permanent facial recognition cameras, raising privacy concerns among residents. The move is part of a broader trend of increased surveillance in urban areas, prompting questions about civil liberties. Supporters argue that the technology could significantly reduce crime rates, citing examples from other cities. In a related development, Gab, a social media platform, has rejected the UK’s demands under the Online Safety Act to censor content, risking significant fines. This situation highlights the ongoing tension between government regulation and free speech in the digital age. The UK government argues that the Act aims to make the internet safer by holding platforms accountable for harmful content.

In Germany, BMW’s decision to incorporate Huawei technology into its vehicles has complicated its export relationship with the U.S., which has banned Huawei products. This decision illustrates the challenges Europe faces in balancing national interests with transatlantic relations, as geopolitical dynamics shift towards a multipolar world. Despite tensions, some European companies continue to engage with Chinese tech firms, indicating a nuanced approach to economic relations.

US Politics

President Trump has ordered the declassification of all FBI files related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, which could potentially impact Hillary Clinton’s legal standing. Critics view this as a political maneuver, while supporters see it as a move towards transparency.

Additionally, the FBI has delivered documents related to the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game shooting to the House Intelligence Committee, following years of requests from Capitol Hill officials. This development is part of a broader push for transparency in government operations. However, some suggest the timing of the document release might be politically motivated.

Geopolitics

The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) scandal continues to develop, revealing a complex web of alleged corruption and covert operations involving global intelligence agencies and financial institutions. The bank’s operations, which reportedly included money laundering and financing covert activities, underscore the intricate connections between global finance and geopolitical maneuvering. While BCCI’s practices have influenced modern financial crimes, some argue that the bank also played a significant role in regional economic development. This historical case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in regulating international banking and preventing financial crimes.

Economy

The stock market may be on the brink of a significant shift, with gold potentially poised to outperform stocks, according to some market analysts. This possible generational shift reflects broader economic uncertainties and the changing dynamics of global markets. While gold’s appeal as a safe haven is growing, some analysts argue that the stock market’s fundamentals remain strong, supported by economic recovery efforts. As investors prepare for a new paradigm, the role of precious metals in portfolios is gaining renewed attention.

Re censoring platforms - and bearing in mind that I don’t know what I’m talking about

We probably need to move away from platforms. Perhaps to some sort of decentralised/distributed “protocol”/code that you can call up from your computer.

Ok. It would be crazy town, but people would develop open-source front ends where you toggle settings to help moderate the kind of content that comes through, based on what you are into.

As I say, I have no idea what I’m talking about and have probably used a load of terms incorrectly, but you get the idea.

I do know that all this censorship will not stop and there is no point trying to negotiate with current governments for some % of your “rights” to be returned. We have to build new systems. For everything. Systems with no one in charge - because any centralised or owned system that succeeds WILL be corrupted.

This reminds of the plain vanilla, both sides represented, can’t tell which way the author leans, decades ago, old fashioned reporting.

This type of reporting gets no traction on social media sites because it really doesn’t elicit emotional responses.

Learned something new, had no idea t

Had not heard about this scandal! New news to me. Although I have the opinion that the big central bankers are the Apex Predators of human society.

You are correct. It will probably get a lot worse in the form of surveillance. Censorship usually appears when the government begins to lose control as The Plebs begin to figure out “It’s a big club and we ain’t in it”.
