The dis bursement of a large trade, if periodic , will be an alert.
My approach is bi-polar as I just bought a house I can’t afford ![]()
I’m setting aside cash in a money market, but continuing to hold silver in an IRA and some physical silver. Like I’ve mentioned before, you want to make money investing, do exactly opposite of what I do.
Agree
I have said here many times - what to do with “winnings”
I am really hopefulll @cmartenson will get engage to organize us around optons
Diiferent for most everyone BUT
If we have paid attention moved to country, no debt, improved the land or have enough gardens what to do given currency issues, great taking, increaaed survalience CBDC , concern about RE taxes and insurance etc.
NOTE: some of us who paid attention are not getting younger doing more land develpment might not be in the cards.
I do like idea of even a better piece of land but too old to really be able to do anything to it???
Do see swapping silver for gold when ratio drops
I see no need for changing despite volatility. No need to take profits. I have eggs in several baskets. PMs are up but USD$ is down. Land and real estate is going up in my area. I recently bought 10 acres in a good location. That is enough for now, I don’t have as many resources and assets to worry about as others here.
I made a big move when I bought more acreage than I sold. I did so because I view metals creeping up as USD$ going down. I moved some from one basket to another.
Now I continue on with cost averaging purchasing as I buy a silver coin or two along the way.
Interest rates were up from what they had been when we redid CDs. Rents went up a year or so ago. That balanced out insurance and property tax increases. COLA helps.
We made our last tuition payment recently. This is huge. I plan to redirect much of that to large projects over next years to get homes in tip top condition. Roof, deck, new kitchen, landscaping projects etc. The timing is good to take me into old age should I stay here and to be ready to sell should I decide to relocate.
I have options for more income should it come to that. I could rent my basement as an apartment. As soon as I get septic completed on some land I own, I will have rentable RV slip. The county is just now getting past the Helene backlog on inspections.
Things might be volatile in the markets but they seem well balanced in my world. I have buffers built in and can absorb a lot of change. If the worst case scenarios come to pass, I will likely be able to eat and stay warm.
Honestly,
One thing I have thought about, as I am getting too old to “tend land”,
is how do we structure a Land Contract type deal with some Young 'Uns.
If we could take some motivated youngsters who want to learn to work
the land. Put them through Alan Savory or such program, and get them under contract to do the work, and eventually earn the land.
In the interim, they would be working the land, raising chickens, a few cattle, etc.
It might be too much for a single persons investment. But a GROUP like PeakProsperity might be able to centralize a few things… Start giving the next generation a chance. I know a couple of people that don’t have kids to leave their land/assets to.
Just trying to think outside the box. The Remnant (us) not only have to keep track of what needs to be done. We MUST implement the old Apprenticeship Programs (My father was a Master Electrician, he signed a letter of Servitude with his Mater Electrician where he had to work for ONLY the Master who sponsored him for some time after he became a true Journeyman.)
For me, if I could invest… And get some semblance of food guarantee (my COW every year, etc.). They would be working off the debt, but not have the sword of Damocles hanging over them every month.
It’s okay to figure out how “We are going to retire”. But I think we must think ONE degree lower/younger.
@cmartenson has kids… What would they say to such an offer?
I do like this..Hunger Games meet Mad Max. I am waiting for construction detritus to be gone…end of Feb,beginning of March…to make a few gardens with the no till method..will need strong young backs..at least a truckload of compost, straw bales, hopefully leftover 2 x 4s from construction to keep it corralled…
Wish me luck. Ive only ever done the square foot garden…but prices are really high for boxes and etc. Plus i need to save for fencing.
Wish me luck!
Speaking of MadMax…Thunderdome..i keep thinking about the young..the suggestion for getting together with other PP oldermember tohelp buy the young farmland and take it out in produce i would LOVE.
I know,i think in songs..but this one has been running through my mind for a while..thinking about too old to farm land, but the young needing a stake..and a life beyond the coming Thunderdome
Follow Chris’s suggestion of raw logs in the bottom of the beds. Takes years to break down, takes up space, and feeds the plants for years as it breaks down. I’ve also noticed a much higher worm count
Hugelkultur! I dont think i will be doing any digging. Way too old. But I’ve heard wood chips with fish food sprinkled over does a similar thing…esp. if you have a clay soil..which i think i do.
See my video reply to Hunger Games meets Mad Max…this idea. Would be Very interested to invest in farmland for young people, and take it out in trade ( as Long as we are not locked into 15 minute cities and are permitted cars).
I have friends trying to sell their farm, which has been very productive, great soil, but the young people who want to farm, don’t have the money. The people who are interested have the money, but don’t want to farm.
It seems there are many who might like to rent a small farm if there was a housing unit and some infrastructure in place.
@cmartenson should be reading this. What can we do as a community?
Can we help buy the land, setup a land contract for the younger generation that wants to learn and actually farm.
Break up a big farm into 4-6 small farm lots? With StarLink, they could still be online.
I would love a TALK about these options.
We have Joel Salatin, Alan Savory, Gabe Brown and others for base training.
Maybe if we had one experienced person (Taking one of the units?) and being there to help the new comers for the first year or two. Promote the next hardest working person up. Roll out to a new farm or retire.
Will talk to the owners, to find out the status. Haven’t spoken with them since before Thanksgiving.
Where are they located if I can ask just wondering?
How is 900Bn barrels of Venezuelan oil not recoverable? Too deep to drill? Or so bad quality cant blend it with anything?
So in this sense “world is full of oil”, we just cant use it or wont need it as it is wrong flavour for our machinery.
V here’s the Zillow listing. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/12310-Ramsey-Rd-Gold-Hill-OR-97525/144476559_zpid/
Looks gorgeous to me! I’d like to have property like that one day…
Yes, but Russia’s oil is just perfect.
