Energy
Global energy trends highlight multiple challenges, according to the Energy Institute’s 2025 Statistical Review. Diesel shortages are noted, with per capita consumption declining since 2014, potentially impacting agriculture, transport, and mining. Copper and platinum production remain flat due to low prices and operational issues, which could affect electrification and industrial demands. Renewable energy growth is reported to be slower than earlier estimates, with fossil fuels accounting for 87% of energy generation in 2024. Nuclear power is also declining, attributed to safety concerns and uranium supply constraints. China, consuming 27% of global energy, faces resource challenges that could have broader international effects. However, organizations like the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) report a significant increase in renewable energy capacity in 2024, suggesting that the transition to non-fossil fuels may be more promising than current figures indicate.
In the U.S., some analysts, including Goldman Sachs, have raised concerns about the power grid’s stability, citing underperformance of renewable energy sources—often generating less power than projected—and increasing demand from AI data centers contributing to blackouts and grid strain.
Separately, ConocoPhillips is expanding Arctic oil drilling near its $7.5 billion Willow project in Alaska, with production still years away and environmental concerns noted by various stakeholders.
US Politics
The Jeffrey Epstein case remains a focal point, with federal law enforcement sources indicating a push for a Special Counsel and comprehensive briefings on findings. Lara Trump has stated that the administration is committed to releasing additional evidence soon, emphasizing President Trump’s focus on public trust. However, House Republicans blocked a vote on releasing Epstein files, despite support from some GOP members like Ralph Norman. Leading Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna to pledge continued efforts. Some Republicans on the House Rules Committee, as reported by Fox News, argue against the release citing privacy concerns and the risk of unsubstantiated allegations.
Relatedly, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has denied allegations of a connection between Jeffrey Epstein and Mossad, calling the claims “categorically false” and criticizing figures like Tucker Carlson for spreading such assertions. However, some conservative commentators, including Megyn Kelly, have referenced past statements by individuals like Alex Acosta suggesting Epstein’s ties to intelligence, contributing to ongoing public debate. The Jerusalem Post echoes Bennett’s stance, labeling the allegations as baseless and part of a broader misinformation campaign.
Separately, Senator Rand Paul has issued a criminal referral against Dr. Anthony Fauci to Attorney General Pam Bondi, alleging perjury and questioning a pardon reportedly issued under Biden’s staff via autopen. Dr. Fauci has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the use of an autopen was standard procedure and fully legal.
Additionally, Kash Patel has initiated a grand criminal conspiracy investigation into what he describes as the weaponization of government against Trump, covering issues from Russia collusion to the Mar-a-Lago raid. Doing so as a grand criminal conspiracy investigation in Florida relaxes the statute of limitations and opens prosecutorial options. However, Politifact notes that moving the case to Florida does not guarantee a favorable jury and questions the legal basis of the “grand conspiracy” narrative.
Health
In Japan, a group called United Citizens for Stopping mRNA Vaccines has analyzed 21 million vaccination records and claims a link between approximately 600,000 deaths and mRNA COVID shots, correlating with national excess death tolls. The study, led by Professor Murakami of Tokyo Science University, identifies a death peak 90 to 120 days post-vaccination. Public skepticism is evident, with only 0.24% of a new self-replicating mRNA vaccine batch administered. The group, supported by over 100,000 signatures, is advocating for a global ban on mRNA technology and is engaged in legal battles while calling for international collaboration to address these concerns. Conversely, The Japan Times reports that health officials dismiss the study’s claims as unfounded, citing methodological flaws and affirming the vaccines’ safety and efficacy.
Geopolitics
Tensions are rising on several international fronts. President Trump has initiated a plan to supply advanced weapons to NATO, with the stated goal of pressuring Russian President Putin into negotiations over Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte referred to this as the “first wave,” with European nations funding shipments set to begin within days, alongside a 50-day ultimatum from Trump for a deal or the imposition of tariffs. Meanwhile, Russian officials, as reported by The Moscow Times, express skepticism about the move, suggesting it may be a bluff to gain leverage rather than a genuine push for peace.
Environment
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reportedly released data on contrails and geoengineering in response to public inquiries, as announced by Administrator Lee Zeldin. The EPA states that there is no evidence of “chemtrails” as intentional chemical releases or government-led geoengineering over the U.S., though it acknowledges the existence of private efforts. Some Trump administration officials and lawmakers have expressed support for the EPA’s transparency, while critics, including Dane Wigington of GeoengineeringWatch, allege a cover-up of what they term “weather warfare.” Nicole Shanahan has also pointed to historical federal grants for such research. The topic remains controversial, with states like Florida and Tennessee enacting bans on geoengineering, while scientific and media discussions continue about its potential climate benefits and risks. Additionally, mainstream outlets have criticized Zeldin for seemingly validating conspiracy theories, while the EPA’s official webpage reiterates that no federal geoengineering programs are currently active in the U.S.
