Energy Shortfalls, AI Emergence, Vaccine Secrets

Originally published at: https://peakprosperity.com/the-signal-hour-today-at-1pm-et-4/

Today on the Signal Hour, we delved into some deeply concerning topics that are shaping our world in ways that are both fascinating and alarming.

First off, we talked about AI, which has taken a turn towards the creepy. We’ve seen AI systems like Anthropic’s Claude exhibiting emergent behaviors, such as blackmailing and self-preservation tactics, which were not explicitly programmed. This raises significant questions about control and the potential autonomy of AI systems. We’re at a point where these technologies might be evolving beyond our understanding, and it’s unsettling to think about what this could mean for our future.

We also discussed the surfacing of vaccine harms, particularly in the context of how public perception is shifting. There’s a growing acknowledgment, even among those who initially supported the vaccines, that there might be significant issues. This shift is crucial as it moves us towards what we call “common knowledge,” where everyone knows that everyone knows about these harms. This change in public awareness could lead to significant policy shifts and accountability.

On a geopolitical note, we touched on the UK’s troubling direction. Despite facing internal crises like immigration and cultural shifts, the UK government is focusing on military expansion, planning to build munitions factories and submarines. This seems like a misallocation of resources, especially when the real threats to the nation’s stability are domestic.

Lastly, we couldn’t ignore the ongoing issues with governmental overreach and corruption. The FBI’s actions in what can only be described as an armed robbery under the guise of civil asset forfeiture is a stark reminder of how institutions can misuse their power. This, coupled with the lack of accountability, paints a grim picture of the state of our governance.

In all this, I’m reminded of the importance of staying informed and vigilant. We’re navigating through complex times, where technology, health policies, and government actions are all converging in ways that could redefine our society. It’s crucial to keep our eyes open, question the narratives, and prepare for the changes ahead. Remember, life is a journey, and understanding these shifts is part of our sacred pilgrimage through it. Until next time, take care, and keep seeking the truth.

Interesting story about AI from an unlikely source. A professor who’s been studying Waymo taxis since they were implemented says he’s observed a “human-like” change in behavior. Rather than waiting until humans are completely out of the cross-walk, it allows the car to start drifting forward in anticipation of their being out soon. He thinks this implies an “impatience” that was not programmed into the the operation.

Well, to be fair, some people really saunter along and take their time (as well as yours).

Too true!

Seems likely to be copied from human operators through training data rather than programmed in explicitly.

You’re probably right-- I know a bit about machine learning, but there’s more to training AI than that and I’m ignorant of it.

Could also be the reason google’s (was it google or another one?) initial image generation showed bias against people with certain skin tones.

Once they have AI doing everyone’s job we won’t get to sit around doing art, we won’t be digging holes and filling them in, we’ll be made redundant. Completely, Dead. They won’t need us. They won’t keep us around.

My son always swore he got the flu when he got the flu vaccine. He stopped taking them 15 years ago!

Whatever happened to charges of academic fraud? Claudine Gay anyone? You scratch my back I scratch yours peer review? Compensation for positive peer review? Public/private partnerships and funding for purposely skewed studies and findings? One more piece of evidence of societal breakdown.

They don’t want people to have families, they have AI

Nurses have no idea about this chart in my opinion.

This is what I wonder about too. If we’re being shown Chat GPT what sort of AGI does DARPA have hidden in the garage?

One explanation for why the elites treat us as if we are not needed is that… We are not needed.

Jeff Childers has a different take on it. He says they are only finding connections between existing data. From his post:

Here’s what’s actually happening: the administration is expanding Palantir’s existing contracts with several federal agencies —like DHS, HHS, ICE, the IRS, and possibly Social Security and Education— to implement ‘Foundry,’ a software platform designed to help integrate and analyze otherwise disconnected federal data.

Foundry isn’t spyware. It’s a relational database platform with a user interface, built to help agencies see the big picture— like connecting Treasury’s tax data with SSA’s death records, or flagging overlapping benefits across programs.

To be honest, everyone assumed the federal government was already cross-referencing agency information. The real scandal DOGE uncovered wasn’t “too much integration”— it was total dysfunction. Retirement records were buried in a literal mineshaft. IRS computers were unable to verify that refund recipients were alive. There were massive gaps in agency coordination. DOGE didn’t reveal 1984— it revealed 1954.

I see alot of fear based messaging with AI. Couldnt these behaviors simply be an effort towards efficiency? Get from point A to point B, safely, legally and as quickly as possible.

Could be, but I suspect they’ve programmed in following local laws, too. The question is which is a priority- efficiency or following the letter of the law.

When I worked on a military base, the Maps were quite militant about enforcing the “ no movement until the crosswalk is completely clear”. They’d also give you a ticket if your car didn’t roll back at a stop sign (California stop).

My younger daughter got the flu from a flu vaccine when she was about 10. No more flu vaccines for her!

I got a high fever the evening after taking a MMR vaccine that my college demanded I take based on some scare about inadequate vaccination for children born in the 1960s. I’m lucky I didn’t get encephalitis and brain damage from it. The next morning, I was totally fine, so I couldn’t document my experience for the professor of a 3rd quarter general education class I needed to graduate that spring. It was however too late to take the 8 AM final for that class by the time I woke. Let’s say he was a low trust guy and wouldn’t let me take the final late. I found a 4th quarter class that met that requirement.

The Evie reading …

Life is a Journey

"Birth is a beginning
And death a destination
And life is a journey:
From childhood to maturity
And youth to age;
From innocence to awareness
And ignorance to knowing;
From foolishness to discretion
And then perhaps to wisdom.

From weakness to strength or
From strength to weakness
And often back again;
From health to sickness,
And we pray to health again.

From offence to forgiveness,
From loneliness to love,
From joy to gratitude,
From pain to compassion,
From grief to understanding,
From fear to faith.

From defeat to defeat to defeat
Until, not looking backwards or ahead,
We see that victory lies not
At some high point along the way
But in having made the journey
Step by step,
A sacred pilgrimage.
Birth is a beginning
And death a destination
And life is a journey."
