Heirloom Mexican Corn Seeds

Bought an old tin with Mexican corn a few years ago. The handwritten note was still inside. Willing to share with the tribe.

Yep.

Yes large amounts of damp plant matter can spontaneously combust. Doing volunteer firefighting I have been to many a round hay bale fire. Other plant matter can do the same thing…

Tv

I have called MSM news for a long time, “Sesame Street journalism”. Short grabs and straight onto the next item. We did not have TV for decades, and thank us for it, as my family saw through the covid drama very early. My son says that we were not inoculated by MSM.

Shrinkflation

I forget which video it was but Chris mentioned Shrinkflation and there’s a really good video put out by a -gasp- Canadian politician that tackles the subject really well

Sweet Potatoes And Regular Potato Planting Times

Chris,
I live in northern Wisconsin ( zone 4 ) and have been growing sweet potatoes for more than 10 years. The results the first few years were poor but I now harvest 400# or more. I grow my own slips and in past years have supplied 300+ slips to other in the area. They do require some extra work to get the soil warm enough before planting. Here is a presentation about growing them in Wisconsin. https://pbswisconsin.org/watch/university-place/university-place-grow-sweet-potatoes-wisconsin/
I have also set up two old dead upright freezes to cure the sweet potatoes before storage. The 10 days at 85 F isn’t absolutely needed but they should be kept at 70 for a month before storage at 55 F or above.
My slips this year are from sweet potatoes grown in 2020.
As far as planting regular potatoes early we have stopped doing that. We now plant after the 4th of July. The potato beetles are all done by then. Last year we only saw one beetle. When planted earlier than that either the beetles eat much of the vegetation or one needs to spend hours removing them. The overall production might be less but the hours spent per pound is much lower.

Intent Or Coincidence?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_illusion
“a cognitive bias in which, after noticing something for the first time, there is a tendency to notice it more often, leading someone to believe that it has a high frequency of occurrence. It occurs when increased awareness of something creates the illusion that it is appearing more often.”
The recent breakdowns in the food supply are consistent with suspicions about the desire of some in power to consciously reduce the food supply. But it may also be an instance of the frequency illusion.
Objectivity is important. The way to differentiate intent and coincidence would be to look at the historical rate of such incidents and see whether the present rate is a significant outlier.
The other sign of intent would be a pattern of reactions by authorities that itself implies intent. Even then, the bias of authorities toward more power for themselves is a pattern but could just be the application of their bias to random incidents, not letting opportunities go to waste.

Consumer price inflation is not just price increases. While the cause may be printing fiat money, the bottom 60% don’t experience that. Here’s a decent summary of what people really see.

I’m looking for farm fires. I just pointed out that Chris had only processing plant fires. However, my first thought is that it will be only factory farms to take out larger producers.
That said, family farms could make an easy target, especially if it’s dry. And Antifa does target white farmers in their anti racist campaigns. I’m not sure rural firefighters could easily tell a natural grass fire or hay spontaneous combustion from arson.

Yes your garden must be rotated. not just nutrients, but also pests and fungus are often plant-specific, so crop rotation is important.

Sorry those of us in farm country don’t need media to tell us problems are real. Two years ago, there was no farm production shortage, just breaks in food processing. Now supply chain shortages are backing up onto the fields. In addition, large parts of the US are dry at the same time the Russians are destroying Ukrainian wheat capabilities.
It would be interesting to look at insurance company reports to see if processing plant explosions and fires are actually higher. In the same way that all cause deaths are up.

I am curious to hear more about your thoughts on this Derek. I used to live in Portland for years, Eugene before that. There is a history of verifiable pattern south of Eugene during the 1990s of this. Please message me.

Thanks Barbara. Great article.

Soon they might have security forces and accept barter only.

I am with Chris. Implausible, especially in context with today’s reality. BTW All, a neighbor of mine hired her house burned and the fire marshal was her friend. Nearly burned my house as well. Her new house was even nicer. Not guessing, watched it happen. All of the photoelectric controlled exterior lamps had been disabled the day before. The blaze was billowing out the kitchen window and the FM declared that it was most certainly the electric burner-top. My wife and I saved our house by standing behind large trees for protection from the heat and spraying water on our house until the fire department arrived. It occurred about 3 o’clock in the morning and we would have burned also had my wife not been awakened by the blaze. She was visiting in the city. Most of us may not be able to afford their products in the near future at any rate. Sorry… rambling I guess.
