It's Crappening in Real-Time

I got kicked off X for a week for using the example of a political party jumping off a 100 story building roof and when they pass the second floor they say, “So far so good.” Apparently and unbeknownst to me, in X logic, I actually did encourage every member of that political party to jump off a 100 story building to commit suicide. I really don’t want you or anyone else to ever commit suicide so if you need a hug, coloring book, hot cocoa, a puppy and a safe space because you now feel like jumping off a tall building after reading the above, please send me a note and I’ll make sure you get all those preventatives. Fortunately, X removed that post before there was a mass full frontal Heaven’s Gate and Kool-Aid fest performed by every Republican on X. I just wish I were more obviously sarcastic so that never happens. I deleted my X account for good to save the planet and prevent further mayhem. (I will miss the fake AI hot chicks who wanted me to be their sugar daddy that made up most of my 58 followers).

Chris, although I was triggered when you said red dye number three, my wife’s got a she shed full of coloring books, puppies, hot cocoa, safe spaces, so I’ll go grab a handful. It is down the hill from the main house and the three degree slope may cause major slidi-ness but I’ve got special FBI certified cramp-ons and climbing ropes to make the walk to-and-from uneventful. I would ask though, why must you trigger so much hate?

I would guess that the groups running those departments were probably not fun people to be around.

This is 100% guess and not evidence, though.

@cmartenson My city and residence burned down in a 2017 “wild fire”.

Besides the lack of water infrastructure problems, and “fire bugs”, there is also a MASSIVE pest problem that was a MAJOR factor then and likely is now too.

Invasive insects like the Bark Beetles blow through hundreds of millions of trees – the trees die and become kindling.

The people who live here do not plant indigenous plants and trees, and large areas of California are sprayed with insecticide sprays on grapes and crops, who can calculate the effects on the macro-biome of all these actions?

The problem is definitely multi-faceted, you have “Ignition” (typically due to the power company remaining energized with above ground lines in the wind), combined with occasional wind events, and finally fuel – due to invasive species of bugs killing large amounts of the forest.

“Fire Season” never existed in California very long ago. Now it seems like a tool to terrorize the population constantly.

Really? When do you see this changed?

I have no love for insurance companies, but look at Kalifornia from the executives’ point of view. They can see the government’s deliberate dialing back of the proven measures to prevent and mitigate wildfires. They can see the mentally ill and “activists” setting fires. They can see their payouts to customers steadily climbing, nay exploding. They’ve tried jacking up their rates to try to stay ahead of the claims. I imagine they’ve gotten so desperate they realize they can’t make a profit selling fire insurance anymore, at any price. What to do? I’d cancel policies in fire-prone areas as fast as possible precisely because I know there are going to be more large fires sooner than later. I couldn’t cancel them fast enough. And I suppose some cancelled customers will get hit with a fire in the near future. When criticized or blamed, I’d suggest they get another policy from a different company, if they can find one (which they can’t because all the legitimate companies see the same facts and trends). If it’s so easy have Gabbin Nuisance write the policies! I’m sure he’d find a way to stiff the tax payers for that and skim some off the top for himself and his cronies.

Using the same kind of reasoning, I can see oil refiners and gasoline retailers pulling out of Kalifornia in the near future. All the cars there will be electric soon enough. :man_facepalming:t2:

Regarding grooming gangs, we have them here in Oklahoma. They are illegal alien Chinese, proven in a Louder with Crowder video made nine months ago. They’ve been buying acreages all over the state (there is one two miles down the rural road from me). The illegal alien Chinese (and I emphasize they are illegals, of course, not all Chinese in OK are doing this). They also buy suburban homes. The rural property is for marijuana growing which is illegal for non-US citizens. The suburban homes are brothels full of children for the sick folks who want to have sex with kids. Okay, great. After the Crowder video, our GOP majority state house and senate passed a bill with great fanfare and hooplah about “hearing the great, hard-working Oklahomans who made it clear illegal aliens owning property will be a thing of the past.” Well, the state politicians gave the illegals five days, oh oops, I mean five weeks, oh no wait, I mean five months, uh so sorry no, they gave the illegal Chinese running the kiddie brothels and growing the dope FIVE F**KING YEARS to sell the property that is illegal for them to own. Color me black helicopter but I think perhaps the politicians are addicted, not to the bud, but addicted to that sweet illegal marijuana and child sex scratch. Several of us pesky citizens have been sending the Crowder video to our shocked, shocked I tell ya state politicians. They’re shocked, concerned, and it’s disturbing to them but the illegal alien Chinese still have five years to sell the property they cannot legally own. In Okla-freakin’-homa.

Yikes!

This headline from CBC today makes me wonder how bad this problem is in Canada. We’re too polite to talk about stuff up here:

Auto insurers are also pulling out asap. There are definitely policy issues here…could this be a feature?

So it looks like they are doing a Maui burn job on LA. No warnings for some, no water for the firefighters and they refused to turn off the power lines after the evacuations. Dane Wigington from Geoengineeringwatch.org would be a timely guest to have.

Two billionaires bet on two different horses. One bet on Kamala, one on Trump. This is just them coming together to censor and control the once free flow of information on the once free internet. These two are here to ensure that never returns for the powers they report to on any large platform.

This is wrong. Seems like memories are short. Recall events like the Oakland/Berkeley Hills firestorm of 1991, for one example. A list can be found on Wikipedia. Many of the California ecosystems are fire prone–especially in the sense of having frequent lower intensity blazes in ecosystems that have not been subjected to poor management such as intensive wildfire suppression, which leads to build-up of fuels. The chaparral of Southern California, commonplace among the hills around the greater Los Angeles area among other parts of the state, is especially fire prone. “Made to burn” is a good characterization.

The other part of the fire story in California is that, with respect to precipitation, it is a feast or famine climate. The entire state experiences a long dry period during the summer–this is especially true the further south the location. After late winter and early spring green up, the meadows, scrublands, chaparral and forests largely dry out and as the months pass become tinder. If there is a saving grace, it is that thunderstorm activity is usually quite limited during this dry period, especially west of the Central Valley, and this limits lightning-caused ignitions. There are exceptions—such as intrusions of maritime tropical air often associated with decaying tropical systems, but generally speaking lightning activity is limited.

The 2019 Trump quotes that Chris discussed in the Signals video have issues—they miss the complexity of the situation and show some level of ignorance about forest ecosystems—which are highly varied across North America. While I would agree that wildland fuel management is an important part of helping mitigate some of the damage wildfires cause, especially in areas where fire suppression has been a long-time policy such that fuels have built up, Trump’s attempt at lambasting the CA government based on intercomparison with other states is ignorant. CA has many unique—endemic—ecosystems, and a rather unique climate. CA is given its own floristic province, for example, in biogeography. It is wrong to compare to other states (though I do note that Oregon just had a record year for wildfire activity, and shares a similar if less extreme precipitation climate to CA). The situation with respect to fire in CA is very, very complex and challenging to manage. It does not help that the population in CA is so very large, which has many knock-on effects, including: 1) Increasing numbers of homes in fire prone areas—the urban-wildland interface—that in turn; 2) increases the likelihood that wildfires will interact with the built environment; and 3) a high demand for a limited water supply which could conceivably lead to problems like dry fire hydrants especially during seasons with below average precipitation.

There is also the other side of the coin. Responsibly moving into a home located in the urban-wildland interface necessitates property management aimed at reducing risk of fire damage. This typically means leaving a perimeter around the home that is largely fuel free. It is probably wise to choose vegetation for the yard that is not fire prone. It is maybe a good idea to have a sprinkler system ready to go, though water supply may not be reliable.

As I have noted, this is a complex topic, and I have only just scratched the surface.

Speaking of incompetence, imagine being a mayor of a major city and not having the chops to be able to handle any non-pre-prepared questions.

This is what rank incompetence looks like in the field:

How can you not even manage a few platitudes, toss in some ‘thoughts and prayers’ and maybe a “I’m working closely with emergency officials and we’re doing everything we can” for good measure?

I’ve seen Deadheads tripping balls do better than that under pressure.

Meta is in the process of building huge data centers near Montgomery AL and Boise ID. I suspect Zuckerberg is just protecting his a$$et$ and any future federal permitting he may require to build nuclear power plants to power his data centers.

Exactly. It shocked the crap out of me after I saw the Crowder video. I’ve known about Chinese going to land owners with briefcases full of cash, buying their acreages, usually twenty to a hundred acres, for ridiculous high prices but really had no idea the reason. The legal “medical” marijuana here in OK has been a nightmare but the politicians love its all cash-ness and the application fees, high dollar restrictions to grow-farms, grow-buildings, etc. However, its heyday waned pretty quickly. A few years after all the “doctors” set up their medical marijuana clinic stores (with convincing medical names like Funky Monkey, Toot Sweets, Left Handed Okies, High Octane Greens, etc) have gone from seven in towns of 500 to one. I had no idea that Tulsa and OK City had kiddie brothels run by illegal Chines aliens. Our elected officials are still trying to ignore the Crowder video. But there’s a lot of pesky citizens here making sure it stays on their desks 24/7. The all red district state assembly is pathetic with the five years to liquidate property law. No corruption there. can’t believe it’s not a thing. Well, I can believe it but man, here?
