It's Time to Believe Your Lying Eyes

Still have my advanced diving card… Somewhere… Didn’t use it for like 2 decades… Maybe I will one day to try to recover losses from boat accident…:smiling_face_with_sunglasses::cowboy_hat_face:

A sled went through the ice on our lake last year. The recovery rig and the technique look exactly like what they used here. I don’t know if he was the diver or if it was a Warden Service diver. Less than 90’ deep lake.

Growing up in a city with dozens of bridges large and small and lots of marshes and rivers in addition to the ocean and intracoastal water ways, I always had the idea of going on the water as a small fear in the back of my mind in regard to driving should a car wreck take place near the water.

Now I’m thinking no snowmobiles on lakes for me!!

Nice piece of meat. Did you have to take out a loan on that?

Costco has pretty high quality meats and I still partake occasionally in a bulk buy there. They’ve never disappointed us.

I’ve found that i can get pretty close in price ordering larger cuts from the local butcher, straight from his source. Something that he only has to store for a day or so and then pass off to me in the original “cryo” packaging. That keeps the markup reasonable.

He said the price goes up anytime his knife touches it. I get it.

Everyone is happy and I’d just as soon support local when I can.

Buying a commercial “chamber” vacuum sealer along with commercial 4 mil bags took it to the next level. No more blown out bags and freezer burned food. Not just meats or frozen food either. It was a huge waste of food in the past, relying on 'foodsaver" and ziplocks. Which didn’t piss me off nearly as bad from a losing money perspective but rather a waste of time, precious life and resources one.

I cant think of a instance since then of pitching ruined fozen food. In the past it was quite high and sickening really.

About an hour or so away from me is a place that processes cattle. It’s all USDA inspected, but it is not USDA prime or USDA Choice becaimuse the cattle have not been feed at feeder lots to the Choice or Prime feed specs. It likely is Select or Commercial grade.

I like the meat from there better because I know most of it is from local pastures in the Upstate of SC and from my and surrounding counties in NC. It’s largely grass fed cows that are in pleasant pastures along creeks with mountain views. I like the flavor of non feed lot beef better, even if it’s a tad less marbled.

The meat from this processor is mostly for commercial use however they have a retail location. You buy large 10lb chub of hamburger, and large whole cuts. If you want chuck you get the whole slab, if ribeyes you get the whole thing. A few minutes with a sharp knife is definitely worth the savings. Perhaps there is such a place in other areas of the country.

NY strip is 6.49 a pound Burger 3.49 Boneless Chuck 4.95. all that is needed is you cut it up at home.

Buying bulk does not have to be a half or whole cow, there are other options. When I was eating alot more red meat, I would get two slabs and come home and cut roasts, steaks cubed meat and stirfry then bag it all up and freeze it. 20-30 mins equated to about 200.00 an hour in savings
