Religious fundamentalists aren’t confined to Iran. Two sides of the same coin and you just can’t see it. Or you could stand in your own values and own your opinions and way of life, instead of reaching for a (probably) mistranslated, edited and misread book.
But do you really need a book and the idea of a god watching over you to discourage you from stealing and murdering? Anyone who does is not a good person, they are a broken person.
Jesus is Israel-in-person. The Messiah sums up all things in Himself. Including the purpose for which the nation was called–which was to be the means through which the Messiah came and… bless the whole world.
Have you read Paul? Does not Paul say what those who are Jews must do? Not be a “nation”. Not obey the law. No, they must be grafted in the olive tree, which is… defined by being in Jesus. The Jews and Gentiles must be defined by being “in the Messiah.”
You are taking those prophecies literally, when many of them are used as images for the renewed world and the “return from exile.” Just like the “stars falling from the sky”, they don’t literally do this. Duh. It’s an image. Many OT prophetic images predict Israel returning… and then Jesus the Messiah comes and returns! He reconciles. He rebuilds. He inherits the entire world.
Israel, the nation in the first century missed it. Now, the people of God are defined by being in Christ. No longer by genetic heritage.
What does Paul say in Galatians about those who are sons of Abraham? It is those who live BY FAITH! It is those who are of the faith who are sons of Abraham.
Studied all his epistles. Gteatest genius who ever lived.
Your reference to Ephesians 2 misses the personal pronouns which misses Paul’s excitement that Christ didn’t just fulfill the prophecies for deliverence for Israel but for Gentiles as well. The pronouns are there and Paul used them for a reason and concludes the mystery is that the Gentiles, not just Israel is included in such great a salvation. We/us are the Jews, You are the Gentiles. IN CHRIST is where the benefits for both begin. Requires something though, something nonmeritorious.
Yeah, I take God’s prophecy to Israel literally. Many haven’t yet happened but will. That Ezekiel temple and new tribe land boundaries are going to happen. That millenial kingdom thing in Revelation for a thousand years is going to literally happen. If you want, we could spill oceans of digital ink going back and forth. I think for brevity we stick to the things we agree on like 1 Corinthians 15. No upcoming prophecy just a beautiful synopsis of what neither one of us deserve but have all the same.
Chris, I have been following you for years and really appreciate your work, but you are losing me on this Israel stuff. I find it hard to understand how you liken Iran to North Korea and Pakistan or others with nukes. There is a key difference you haven’t mentioned. Iran publically says Jews don’t have a right to exist and has been supporting terriorist organizations for years who have the sole purpose of eliminating Jews. God blesses those who bless Israel and curses those who curse Israel as you know. That scripture is not outdated.
Did God curse Himself in Deuteronomy 28:15-68? Is NOT supporting Israel’s government that is clearly committing genocide in Gaza “cursing Israel?” Is not wanting to fight Israel’s wars that they can get into if they so choose, cursing Israel?
Sorry for inserting myself into your statement regarding Genesis 12:3. Couldn’t help myself.
Skimmed over that one at first. Again, sorry no. Jesus is the son of God. He fulfilled all the prophecies for deliverance from sin for Israel via 1 Cor 15:1-4, all the requirements and illustrations in Leviticus. Nowhere in scripture did Jesus become Israel. Good grief.
Well, in my view the only reason what is happening in Gaza could be construed as genocide is that Hamas hides behind women and children like the cowards they are. Nobody is required to support Israel’s wars. I was just speaking to Chris clearly cursing Israel over the past week.
Help a dumb guy. How in the world did Chris curse Israel? Please give examples. I read all his posts, listened to all his videos for over a week and missed them all.
You said it, not me. You obviously have a lot of time on your hands, so I’m sure you can go back and find an instance or 6 where Chris is not a fan of Israel.
I no longer care what governments “say”. It’s 100% lies and propaganda. So Iran says “death to the Jews”. Who cares, it’s probably to appease domestic hard-liners. The US says they support democracy around the world. ha ha ha. I mean if you ignore the 50+ overthrows of government, the black torture sites all over the world, the assassinations, the wars, the support for tyrants and terrorist. And yes, Iran supported Hamas (gasp) - so did Israel. Whoopie doo.
What I care about more is what did they do. Which countries did Iran bomb? Which top-level officials did they assassinate? OTOH, I see Israel bombing Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and now Iran. I see IDF soldiers luring kids out of their hiding placed with toys and shooting them in the head. I see the wholesale slaughter of the Gazans. The pagers that blew up in rooms full of children - ha, f*ck them. Targeting people in their residential apartment building. Bombing embassies.
I am no fan of the Iranian government, they are a bunch of backwards tyrants who terrorize their own people. IOW, pretty much a standard government. But given a choice between a government that targets children, and a government that puts up distasteful billboards, I know where I stand.
I don’t limit my disdain to governments. I no longer care about anything that anybody says. People say all kinds of stuff, some retarded, some inspirational. But what do they do? Actions speak louder than words: after a lifetime, now I really understand it. So to the world: STFU. Show me. I’m from Missouri now.
You do not understand. That’s ok. We will disagree.
If you want to understand, read N.T. Wright Jesus and the Victory of God. By the end of it, you will.
The King of Israel is representative of Israel. The Messiah is… Israel-in-person. When God promises David an eternal house, JESUS is the fulfillment of that promise.
This is standard Ancient Near Eastern thought of the king being representative of the nation. That is what is meant by “nation-in-person”.
Jesus walks the same path that Israel walks. Down to Egypt and back. He takes the path through the land. Jesus is walking the path of Israel, but doing so FAITHFULLY. He is the faithful Israel-in-person.
The King of Israel is also… the son of God. God adopts the king as son. But we discover as we read more carefully in the NT that this has a double meaning. He’s not only king, not only son of God, but Son of God. But that was a discovery, something learned later. By later, I don’t mean “invented.” I mean as the apostles understood Jesus’ usage of Daniel 7 and other passages, they realized… whoah, this “one like the son of man” is referring to Jesus and carries God’s authority. He is more than man, he is divine. The original understanding of son of God was simply king. Again, ANE standard thought and typical 1st century Jewish understanding.
I get that he’s not a fan of what the Israeli government is DOING. I missed the part about it meaning he cursed Israel per the original Hebrew word or even the English translation of the word “curse” in Genesis 12:3 and its repercussions like YOU said.
