The Coronavirus Pandemic Is Forcing Leaders To Decide: Save Lives Or The Economy?

Governments around the world are struggling to answer: What’s the bigger priority, saving lives or the economy?

Lots of strong opinions on both sides and not lot a lot of agreement (yet).

China-style lockdowns are hard for most leaders to swallow, as they result in gut-wrentching economic losses, mass job layoffs, and supply shortages.

But keeping people at work or returning them too soon risks higher infection rates, likely overwhelming the health care system for everyone, likely resulting in a lot more avoidable deaths.

No matter the path chosen, reducing the rate of spread of the pandemic is something that benefits everyone.

In today’s video, Chris spends time highlighting a number of personal behaviors, treatment programs, and national policies that show promise on this front.

We all have our part to play in that great call to slow covid-19 in its tracks as best we can.

A helpful resource in doing this is PeakProsperty.com’ new free report: The Covid-19 Home Lockdown Survival Guide.

We’ve written this to be a comprehensive collection of the resources you need to stay safe, sane and solvent through the covid-19 crisis. And it’s a great tool for getting everyone in your household on the same page — print it out and have them read it.

Being on lockdown, we have plenty of time for games as a family. Jenga emerged as a rather apt analogy for what “management” is debating. Do we pull the hospital block out of the rickety tower? The economy block? The population block? Maybe if we hadn’t spent the last 11 years pulling all the other blocks out in the name of efficiency and profit, we’d have a better structure entering the crisis.
Maybe we’ll play “Sorry” next. Metaphor.

Not a big fan of the sensationalist nonsense suggesting that 21M people might have died because of people canceling part of their cell-phone plan due to being at home. From the Bloomberg article:
“Part of the drop could be caused by migrant workers – who often have one subscription for where they work and another for their home region – canceling their work-region account after the virus prevented them from returning to work after the Lunar New Year holidays that began in late January, said Chris Lane, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.
Seems a bit more plausible than millions of dead people being hidden. I don’t believe the China numbers either, but folks need to take off the tinfoil hats from time to time.
Edit: Also, did all of these supposed dead people cancel their plans? Verizon would gladly keep charging you if you were dead

Well Chris congratulations on all of your coverage of this issue. There isn’t anyone in the world as qualified with a background in both pathology and the economic aspects you have developed over the past decades. The world needs people like you.
I was beginning to question if this system would ever end and wouldn’t you know it, the month after I go long the thing collapses… no major damage to ny portfolio though, I only lost a thousand bucks. And I never sold any of my tier 1 pet rocks.
Lots of questions still and uncertainty about how the future will unfold but it looks like its gonna unfold fairly rapidly, and not for the better unfortunately.

Right after the shelter in place orders were given all of the canned meat almost everywhere was sold out. Just today I noticed that Walmart has it back. This is inexpensive, decent quality and is only beef and sea salt. At just under 1,000 calories per can it’s been great. Again: $6.29 for 1,000 calories. Between my frozen food and this there has been no need to venture into the supermarkets at all during this pandemic. Great for prepping on a budget.

Living in very hard hit NJ. Grocery deliveries are hard to come by but going to the store is not an option. When groceries are delivered, how should they be disinfected? What PPE should be used and what type of cleaner/disinfectant is food safe?

I barely posted that after putting in my order. All sold out again just like that. See my link in post #5.

My bank account numbers is available, to transfer your funds. Please feel free to lead the way and save the economy. You go first.

I have actually, been quarantining groceries for several years because I have a 4 year old and i was careful when she was very young. Just bring them in the home, let them sit 3 days for flu and about 5-9 days for coronavirus. This works for dry goods… Refrigerated goods got a wash down before placing in the refrig… be careful of cross contamination when handling.
I also have a ozone UV light and UV-C light for dissinfection… you just need to expose these for a bout 15 minutes under certain lights… I wouldnt do it to produce and fresh foods. but boxed , canned , etc. you can. You can also remove out packages and wraps and place in clean safe ones… Have someone assist… Just pay attention to cross contamination again.
edit: toast sliced breads, or heat whole loaves or buy parcooked loaves. Apples and hard fruits can be placed in clean bag and washed thoroughly before consumption, Potatoes, placed in a clean bag as well - and wash and cook as usual, carefully clean counters boards etc after preparing.

Thank you so much! I am definitely on the right track as we have been doing a lot of what you suggested. One more question…what type of solution would be safe to use when disinfecting food? We were planning on using hydrogen peroxide 3%.

This appears similar to recent US change in response, as Americans ponder some returning to work in time for Easter.

… a YouTube video by a doc outlining safe handling of groceries. Enjoy!

Might be the most heroic thing you can do.

Simple news search using the words “coronavirus” and “hospitals”. Headlines that include “when all hell broke loose” from CNN and “Apocalyptic” from The New York Times and “America’s Hospitals Have Never Experienced Anything Like This” from The Atlantic.

Enlightened thinking by the government in the Czech Republic.

Here’s the latest Chinese Study suggests IFR 0.12%, R0 of 5.

In spite of French success in finding a remedy - the HEATH SYSTEM is doing its level best to not use the hydoxy-chloroquine remedy. Here is the debate in French https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHeT-6zEMuo&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR1wHGAgkXoQkVIR6ViNkwQIK5UDMgP2wBgE6Vu0NAc3vymBMeQG52IN1RY

Can you please translate the main ideas. I heard the word “dangerous”…Is that the objection?

Maybe because it was mentioned by Trump so it must be false since Orange Man Bad.
i didn’t hear zinc mentioned but my French isn’t up to speed.
